Pride William M, and Ferrell, O. C. (2012), Marketing, 17th Edition. South-Western.
Catalogue Course Description:
The basic principles of marketing are introduced. Material covered includes marketing’s
role in society and the firm, marketing concept, market segmentation and target
marketing, market measurement, and the elements of the marketing mix, including
product planning, physical distribution, promotion, personal selling, mass selling, and
price setting.
Prerequisite: ECON 202
Exams:
There will be 3 exams (two majors and a final) during the semester based on the material
covered in your text book and other material covered in the class. Exams will contain
T/F, MC, short essay, and open questions.
Course Group Project:
There will be group project (4 students each) where students will develop a marketing
plan for a hypothetical product. Details will be given later. However, the sample
marketing plan (Appendix C on page A-27) will be used to guide you writing your report.

Grading will be based on the following components:

(Quizzes will be assigned when needed but I will tell you about them in advance.
They will cover chapters (material) to be read by students before class)
Attendance:
University policy and related rules will be employed. Please pay the attention to the
following:
1- DO NOT ask for personal excuses.
2- Bring your written excuse within 7 days after returning to class (but not later than
the dates indicated in the calendar) or the absence will be considered unexcused.
Remember, even if you had an excuse, you are responsible for obtaining notes for
any material missed due to class absence.
3- Students whose unexcused absences total more than 20% (6) will receive a grade
of “DN”.
4- Attendance will be taken at the beginning of the class, so it is your responsibility
to come to class on time. Students arriving after attendance has been taken will be
considered tardy and three tardies will be counted as one unexcused absence. If
you come after 15 minutes, just get in quietly but you will be considered absent.
5- To encourage attendance and punctuality, the following rule will be applied:
a- Zero absences will add 2 points to the final grade.
b- One absence will add 1.5 point to the final grade.
c- Two absences will add 1 point to the final grade.
d- Three absences will not impact the final grade.
e- Four absences will subtract 1 point from the final grade.
f- Five absences will subtract 2 points from the final grade.
g- Six absences will subtract 3 points from the final grade.
Expectations from Students
All students are expected to:
1- Come to class on time and stay until the end of class period. If you have to leave
the class room, for an acceptable reason, you MUST get the permission to do so.
2- Read the assigned chapter (s) before each class meeting and be prepared for
discussions, pop quiz, or a short presentation. Be an active participant.
Participation in this course is very important. I will call on names to encourage
participation.
3- Not miss any of the scheduled exams. NO make-up exams.
4- Turn in assignments on time.
5- Turn off mobile phones and all other communication devices.
Academic Honesty
Any form of cheating will NOT be tolerated. This applies to exams, quizzes, the project,
and all other activities. If any student attempts to cheat, he will receive an “F” for the
course.
Plagiarism is another issue that is discussed in the group project.
WebCT:
This class will utilize Web CT as a main web resource. Announcements, project
instruction, grades as well as other activities will be communicated and coordinated
through Web CT. Since I have a ready-made PowerPoint slides, I may post them before
class. Hence, I encourage you to, at least, read the slides before class and use them to
guide you in your reading activity.
