The Holy Year began on December 8, 2015 and will be celebrated until November 20, 2016. Throughout the year, there will be a series of jubilee celebrations on the theme of mercy for teenagers, deacons, the sick and disabled, prisoners, catechists and clergy. M. Pascucci As well, Pope Francis opened the Vatican’s Holy Door on December 8th. The Holy Door is opened to evoke the concept of forgiveness which is the main focus of a Holy Year. The theme God’s mercy is illustrated in fifteen of the sixteen bronze panels that make up the Vatican Door. There are seven such Holy Doors in the world, including one in Quebec City. Catholic Education Week 2016 combines both the theme of mercy and the act of opening doors of reconciliation, mercy and forgiveness to all around us. I show my love by doing kind things and saying kind words. I treat others as I want to be treated. I love God and all that God has created, including myself. God has given us many guidelines and examples of how to live our lives. He sent his Son Jesus to make sure that we could see what life could be like. Jesus made one lesson clear above all other lessons—the lesson of love. Love is not about us—it is about forgetting ourselves and looking out for the good of the other. That’s what Jesus did—he forgot about himself on purpose. He chose to give up his life for the good of others—us! Becoming a truly loving person is challenging. It takes prayer and concentration to get used to making little sacrifices for the good of others. Making little sacrifices on purpose so that others will have a bit of food, a bit of shelter, a bit of peace, a bit of quiet, a bit of fun, a bit of friendship. TERS VISITOR AND PARENT SIGN IN Please do not escort students directly to class; rather, report to the main office and the secretary will ensure that your child gets to class safely. If necessary a visitor’s sticker will be issued. It takes only a minute to help keep your children safe. Students and staff feel safer when a visitor’s sticker is visible on unfamiliar faces as well as familiar ones. Your cooperation is appreciated. DPCDSB is now on Twitter! It should be offered to them as a precious gift." Opening Doors of Mercy Catholic Education Week: May 1— May 6 2016 During this week the Catholic community celebrates the unique and distinctive contribution that Catholic Schools make to our students, our community, and our province. Catholic Education Week is an opportunity to celebrate the Mission of our Catholic Schools as they strive to integrate the Gospel values of Jesus Christ in every aspect of the school’s life and in curriculum. “Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.” – Matthew 5:7 The subthemes are as follows: Monday: Mercy that Welcomes (Jesus and the Woman at the Well: John 4: 1-42) Tuesday: Mercy that Loves (The Good Samaritan: Luke 10:25-37) Wednesday: Mercy that Forgives ST. DOMINIC’S PARISH NEWS The church will always gather. What Christians can do together far surpasses what we can do alone. Our Parish is in trouble in terms of mass attendance, membership on committees, and in ministries and therefore, struggling financially. St. Dominic’s church is looking for volunteers, fundraising ideas, and feedback from our community. The church desperately needs our help in order to continue to meet the sacred and social needs of our people. Our community must come together to preserve and save St. Dominic’s Catholic Church. Our church needs the support of all of our families. Your help in any capacity is greatly appreciated. We can email Fr. Phil with suggestions and solutions at fr.psuggestionbox@gmail.com In the future church, attendance won’t drive engagement; engagement will drive attendance.
