session will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at 7:00

further instructions are given.
All students and staff who are outside the building are
to quickly move as far away from the building as possible and remain there until further instructions are provided.
We have scheduled our Lock Down drill for the week of
November 10, 2014. The drill will be conducted with as
much sensitivity as possible in order not to cause undue
concern with students. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Security
For the safety and security of your children ONLY staff and
assigned supervisors are allowed in the school yard during
recesses. Parents are kindly asked to NOT go into the students’ play yard at the back and side of the school. If you
need to speak to your child, we require you to come to the

office and we will locate your child and have them meet
you in the office. We thank you for your co-operation in

classroom teacher and French teacher to discuss the suitability of this opportunity for your child.
Interested parents and students are invited to this presentation on Wednesday, January 14th, 2015 at 7 pm at St. Monica School. (60 Sterritt Drive, Brampton L6Y 5B6) Applications will be accepted at St. Monica until 3:00 pm on

Lockdown Drills
It is the policy in Dufferin-Peel CDSB, that all of its schools
conduct a “Lockdown Procedure” twice a year. This will
be initiated should an emergency exist on school property
or in the surrounding neighbourhood. Part of the process
is to practice the “Lockdown Procedures” as we practice
fire drills. The procedures that we will follow have been
recommended by the board.
Students will be instructed that when they hear the announcements ,“Initiate Lockdown Procedure” followed by
the repeated ringing of the school bell, all staff and students will follow the following actions:
1. All students and staff inside the building will remain in
their classrooms.
2. Students or staff in the hallways or washrooms will be
expected to go to the closest classroom.
3. Students and staff will remain in the classroom until
Students who are ill should be kept home where they are
most comfortable and can get better, sooner. A child who
is too ill to go out for recess is too ill to be at school. Your
co-operation to keep your child home when he/she is ill is
appreciated. A doctor’s note is required if your child needs
to stay in at recess.
School Hours
Supervision in the school yard does not start until 8:25 a.m.
Please do not drop off your children before that time.
Dressing For Colder Weather
Please assist us in encouraging your child to dress appropriately for the weather. Except when the weather is extremely cold or wet, the students will be going outside during the recess and lunch periods. The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School policy states that consideration should be
given for keeping students indoors during recesses when
the wind chill reaches –20C. At –25C students will be kept
indoors. For the younger students, it would be helpful if
parents were to label item s o f clo thing with their child’s
name. Each term, items make their way to the Lost and
Found and are never claimed. Labeled items can be returned more easily and mixed up items sorted out more
readily. If your child brings home an item by mistake,
please return it to the school so that this mix up may be for bus delays and cancellations.

tion.
We have already begun to experience colder and wet
weather. In order to avoid tracking mud, water and snow
into the classroom, it will be necessary for each student to
have a pair of indoor running shoes. Students will change
into this additional pair of shoes as soon as they come to
their class. We are also requesting that the shoes the students will wear indoors, have non marking soles so that
there will be no black scuff marks on the floors. We appreciate your assistance in this endeavor.
Custody of Children
On rare occasions we are faced with difficult situations in
which non-custodial parents arrive at our school asking to
visit with their child or take their child out for lunch or
home after school. We are best able to serve and protect
the child when we are made aware of legal custody arrangements, visitation rights and special instructions. If
legal custody matters affect your family, please ensure that
our office and classroom teachers are aware of custodial

News from the Breakfast Club
Breakfast club is up and running very smoothly and on
October 21st, representatives from Kelloggs Canada, generously donated boxed breakfasts for all our breakfast club
members.
Thank you to all our parent and staff volunteers (Mr. &
Mrs. Anderson, Mrs. Brohart, Mrs. Horvath and Mrs.
Rzepka) for their time and commitment to the Breakfast
Club. Due to the overwhelming enrollment, more volunteers are needed to help run our breakfast club in the morning from 8:15 to 8:45. Please fill out a volunteer form in the
office and obtain a Criminal Reference Check from the Police Department.
Eco News from the Green Ninjas
Did you know that school lunches are a major source of
waste in Ontario? In fact the average student’s lunch generates a total of 30 kilograms of waste per school year. This
year, the students at Pauline Vanier participated in the
week long Waste Free lunch challenge that was held Province wide on October 21st – October 24th, 2014. The goal
was to decrease the amount of garbage we produce and to
educate students, staff and parents about waste management. The Eco Team is pleased to report that the students
at Pauline Vanier did an outstanding job decreasing the
amount of garbage produced at school. The Green Ninjas
weighed the garbage from each class every day and noticed
a decrease in the amount of garbage produced at school as
well as using the recycling bins correctly. Let’s keep this
going for the remainer of the school year and work towards
maintaining our Silver status. GO VIKINGS!
