Lord Jesus
You said to your disciples
“Blessed are the Peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.”
You know how much the world needs Your
peace.
Yet in so many places in the world there is
only war and conflict.
Lord, through the power of the Holy Spirit,
Transform human hearts,
Give our world a desire for peace,
And help us to see You in others.
We pray in Your Holy name.
Amen
We are pleased to inform you that this year
we will once again be filling shoeboxes for
the less fortunate around the world. Operation Christmas Child is an exciting and
worthwhile project involving many Dufferin-Peel schools. Pauline Vanier is thrilled to
take part and we look forward to your participation.
Remembrance Day
Fall Food Drive
On November 11th, Canadians all across
the country recognize the sacrifices and
achievements of those who have served in
the cause of peace and freedom. World War
One Armistice was signed on the 11th hour
of the 11th day of the 11 month and that is
why November 11th is called Remembrance
Day. Poppies will be sold and students are
asked to bring a small donation to help support our veterans. We will also be having a
Remembrance Day assembly at 10:30 am on
November 11th in the school gym. Parents
and family members are welcome to attend.
As is the tradition here at Pauline Vanier
the Youth Faith Ambassadors are inviting
everyone to help with our food drives.
Throughout the school year, we will be
holding many food drives and fundraising
events to raise money for those less fortunate. The Fall Food Drive will begin on
Monday, November 11th and will continue
until Friday, November 22nd. With this
food drive, we are hoping to collect many
food items in order to feed those who are
less fortunate.
All food donations can be dropped off in

Learning and Growing Together with God
Lockdown Drills
It is a policy in Dufferin-Peel CDSB that all of its schools
conduct a “Lockdown Procedure” twice a year. This will
be initiated should an emergency exist on school property
or in the surrounding neighbourhood. Part of the process
is to practice the “Lockdown Procedures” as we practice
fire drills. The procedures that we will follow have been
recommended by the board.
Students will be instructed that when they hear the announcements “Initiate Lockdown Procedure” followed by
the repeated ringing of the school bell, all staff and students will follow the following actions:
1. All students and staff inside the building will remain in
their classrooms.
2. Students or staff in the hallways or washrooms will be
expected to go to the closest classroom.
3. Students and staff will remain in the classroom until
further instructions are given.
4. All students and staff who are outside the building are
to quickly move as far away from the building as possible and remain there until further instructions are provided.
We have scheduled our Lock Down drill for the week of
November 11, 2013. The drill will be conducted with as
much sensitivity as possible in order not to cause undue
concern with students. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
For more information about registration and the Full-Day
Kindergarten program, call 905-794-8039 or visit
www.dpcdsb.org.
Student Illness—Staying in During Recess
Students who are ill should be kept home where they are
most comfortable and can get better, sooner. A child who
is too ill to go out for recess is too ill to be at school. Your
co-operation to keep your child home when he/she is ill is
appreciated. A doctor’s note is required if your child needs
to stay in at recess.
School Hours
Supervision in the school yard does not start until 8:25 a.m.
Please do not drop off your children before that time.
Dressing For Winter
Please assist us in encouraging your child to dress appropriately for the weather. Except when the weather is extremely cold or wet, the students will be going outside during the recess and lunch periods. The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School policy states that consideration should be
given for keeping students indoors during recesses when
the wind chill reaches –20C. At –25C students will be kept
indoors. For the younger students, it would be helpful if
parents were to label item s o f clo thing with their child’s
name. Each term, items make their way to the Lost and
Security
Found and are never claimed. Labeled items can be reFor the safety and security of your children ONLY staff and turned more easily and mixed up items sorted out more

Physical Education
Extended French Information Meeting
Students participating in physical education must wear
non-marking running shoes. In the interest of personal hygiene older students should bring a change of clothes for
physical education classes. In the interest of safety, students must remove jewelry prior to participating in physical education. Again we will continue with the Ministry
mandated Daily Physical Activity Program. This program
requires that all students from Kindergarten to 8 be involved in 20 minutes of physical activity each day.
St. Monica will be hosting an Extended French Program
Information meeting for parents/guardians of Grade Four
students who wish to register for the program. The extended French Program starts in Grade Five with students receiving 50% of curriculum instruction in the French Language. Parents are encouraged to speak to your child’s
classroom teacher and French teacher to discuss the suitability of this opportunity for your child.
Interested parents and students are invited to this presentation on Wednesday, January 15th, 2014 at 7 pm at St. Monica School. (60 Sterritt Drive, Brampton L6Y 5B6) Applications will be accepted at St. Monica until 3:00 pm on

School Bus Safety
A reminder to parents, guardians and students not to walk
in between parked busses at the front of the school. This is
a safety concern for us and for the bus drivers. A reminder
also to students and parents that students are not to use cell
phones on school busses. The DPCDS Board PED Policy
states: To promote respect for the dignity of all members of
our school community and to enhance student achievement
and safety, the use of a PED is strictly prohibited in the
school (including portables) or during school related activities (such as retreats, field trips, sports events, etc.).
We thank all students and parents for your co-operation in
this matter.
Late Busses
Due to circumstances over which we have no control at the
school, busses are often irregular in schedules. We realize
that this is an inconvenience for you when picking up your
children at the bus stop. Fortunately we now have a website where parents can check for busses delays and cancellations. The website is www.stopr.ca. At the school when
buses are late, students remain under the supervision of the
teachers or administration.
Custody of Children
On rare occasions we are faced with difficult situations in
which non-custodial parents arrive at our school asking to
visit with their child or take their child out for lunch or
home after school. We are best able to serve and protect
the child when we are made aware of legal custody arrangements, visitation rights and special instructions. If
legal custody matters affect your family, please ensure that
our office and classroom teachers are aware of custodial
arrangements between parents that may impact your child
during school hours. We recommend that custodial parents share legal documentation for our information.
French Immersion Information Meeting
SK parents/guardians, who wish to enroll their child in a
Grade 1 French Immersion class for September, 2014 are
invited to attend an information meeting at St. Angela
Merici. (83 Edenbrook Hill Drive, Brampton L7A 2N7) The
session will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at
7:00 pm. Online registration will begin following the
French Immersion Parent Information with the deadline for
submissions to be announced.
November Virtue of the Month is Conscience
Conscience is having the knowledge of your own acts as
right or wrong.
What does conscience do…
Look Like?
A person of conscience keeps his/her promises.
Sound Like?
A person of conscience admits his/her wrong doing and feels
badly.
Feel Like?
A person of conscience chooses to do the “right thing” and feels
good about it.

Dr. Simone’s Warehouse
Tuesday, Nov. 12
We are collecting hard candy for Dr. Simone’s Warehouse
where the hard candy will be distributed to children suffering from malnutrition. Malnutrition shuts down the body’s
digestive track and often children cannot eat, even when
regular healthy food is given to them. However, the doc- Thursday, Nov. 14
