P.A. Day
Saint Kevin, we celebrate your saintly and holy life.
Help us to grow in our awareness of God’s gifts to us.
You lived a life filled with a wonderful reverence
and awe of the beauties of nature.
You held in high esteem the value of life in all forms.
Create in us an appreciation
for the presence of God in all creation.
We ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Saviour.
Amen.

Secretary
Principal’s Message
It is difficult to believe that we are coming
to the end of this school year. It has been
a successful school year. I would like to
take this opportunity to personally thank
all the members of the St. Kevin School
community for working together to make
our school the best it can be. As I reflect
on this year, I have enjoyed working with
you and your children, the parish team,
and the wonderful staff of St. Kevin
School. Our Welcome to Kindergarten
Night was well received by the community.
Congratulations to our Grade 8 students
who celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation in May. Our Grade three and six
students wrote EQAO during the last
week of May and the first week of June.
Thank you to our School Council for or-
ganizing the Dance-a-thon, which was a
great success. Our Year End Mass will be
on Wednesday, June 26 at 10:00 a.m. at
Our Lady of Fatima Church with Graduation Ceremony the same evening beginning at 6:30 p.m. The last day of school is
June 28th.
Finally I would like to thank all members of
staff who will be leaving us this year. A
special goodbye to Mrs. Ricciuto who is
retiring at the end of June. On behalf of
the St. Kevin community, I would like to
express our thanks to Mrs. Ricciuto for her
many years of service to Dufferin-Peel and
St. Kevin School. We wish her good health
and God’s blessing as she embarks on this
new journey.
We wish everyone a safe and enjoyable
summer.

The Virtue for June is Fairness
We ask parents to remind their children that when they are released at the end of the school day, if they don’t see their parent
or baby sitter waiting to pick them up, they should come back in
the front door of the school, to the office and wait until someone
arrives. With the school and parents reinforcing this policy, we
will continue to have a safe dismissal.
St. Kevin is fortunate to attend the DPCDSB
Elementary School Beach Volleyball tournament on June 5. It should be a fun day for
team members: Kieron O., Shawn G., Austin
B., Matthew G., Marcel T., Michael F., Abigail
A., Priyanka D. and Jackie L. Thanks to Mrs. Fortin and Mrs.
Edmunds.
People of Fairness…
Dress Code
Now that the warmer weather is upon us, we remind students
that St. Kevin School is committed to standards of neatness,
modesty and good taste. Students are encouraged to dress modestly at school. We ask that students not wear: tank tops, muscle
shirts, halter-tops, very short tops or very short shorts. Furthermore, we remind students that pants are to be worn around the
waist. These requests are directed more towards our junior and
intermediate students. A little more latitude is given to younger
students. T-shirts with inappropriate or offensive language or
pictures are not allowed at school. Students who wear unacceptable clothing to school may be asked to telephone their parents to arrange to have a change of clothing brought to school
for them. We thank parents and students for cooperating.
Congratulations!!
Grade two student and author Avery Ordonez has written a story called "Jack and
the Treasure Box King". With the support of
his family and peers, Avery weaved a tale of
treasure and treason that is thought provoking and insightful. Avery's piece was entered
into the OECTA Young Author's Award and
was selected as the winner in the category
of Grade One/Two fiction and short story.
Avery has shown an appreciation for literacy
and has developed a keen dedication and
advocacy to the art of story telling through
writing. Bravo Avery!
Book Challenge
Mrs. Giesen’s class continued to participate in the challenge and
have read 300 more books for a school year total of 500 books!
Congratulations on completing a successful book challenge! We
are very proud of you!
Butterfly Raising in Mrs. Giesen’s Class
Thank you to all who supported us with our painted butterflies.
We raised them from the larvae stage and released them into the
peace garden as beautiful adult butterflies.
Dance-a thon
Our Dance-a-thon was a huge success! Thanks to all the students and families at St. Kevin for raising over $5000. The top
three classes alone raised over $1600. Congratulations to Mr.
MacRury’s class in first place, Mrs. Fortin’s class in second and
Mrs. Giesen’s class in third. The Parent Council is proud of all
our St. Kevin families for their support of our
Dance-a-thon.
Grade 8 Graduation
Graduation will take place on Wednesday, June
26th at 6:30 pm at St. Kevin School. The Year
End Mass will take place on June 26th at 10:00
am at Our Lady of Fatima Church.

Junior Boys Basketball
The Junior Boys basketball team had an extremely successful
season. The boys captured the MBC Jr. Basketball Championship quite easily and brought their A-game to the DPCSSB Basketball Final. They made it to the semi-finals, finishing 3rd place
out of over 120 schools. The boys started a winning trend, which
will continue at St. Kevin for years to come. Mr. MacRury and
Mr. Santagata are extremely proud of their efforts. Awesome
job, Celtics!

French Café
On May 31st we celebrated held a French
Café. The students decorated and presented
plays in French for all the students and the
community. Chocolate croissants and fruit
juice were enjoyed by all. A special thank you
to Mrs. Maamari and Ms. Samai for organizing
and to all teachers for your help making this a
great success.
Eco-Team Update
On May 17th, the Ontario Eco Certification Team visited St. Kevin to perform their audit / celebration on the activities that St.
Kevin school has been working on to be a certified eco school.
Led by Alexandra G., Ayo O., Hannah O., Manisha J., and Nicole G., the Ontario Eco Auditor had many great things to say
about what eco initiatives St. Kevin has done, is doing and will
be doing moving forward. The other eco students that have
contributed to our success are: Chloe M., Taheerah A., Janiyah
Y., Kyro B., Avery O., Hailey R., Kevin O., Jodie G., Chris V.,
Michel V., Lateefah Q., Leandre G., Timothy P., Nandita V.,
Joshua Y., Zachery J., Eshane B., Victoria E., Priyanka D.,
Anushka MC., Joanne A. and Julia S. Also the teachers at St.
Kevin added many eco: lessons, read alouds, art-work, hall displays, front foyer displays, and encouragement to all the students to be more eco friendly in everyday activities, which added
points for the certification process. In May, Peel Region had a
school-wide assembly at St. Kevin to teach the students how to
“Reduce the Waste” even further. In June, the Eco Team will be
receiving a big shipment of plants to add to our Butterfly Garden
that Mrs. Hibbitt and the team are organizing. With the strong
support of the administration, staff, custodians, and parent
council, the eco future at St. Kevin looks green! Thank you to
the eco teachers: Mrs. Fortin, Mrs. Capobianco, Mrs. Hibbitt,
Mrs. Limarzi, and Mr. Mullen for their commitment to the Eco
Team at St. Kevin. We are all looking forward to hearing about
our eco certification status in late June … St. Kevin, Pray for
Us…
If you are moving from our school area
before September 2013, please inform
the school as soon as possible. This
will assist us in planning and staffing
classes for the new school year.
From the Library…
Students are reminded that all books are due back to
the library by Friday, June 7th. Letters for payment of
any unreturned/lost items will be sent home during the
week of June 10th.
EQAO Testing
Our Grade 3 and 6 students completed their EQAO testing June
7th. We know that the students were well prepared for this assessment and did their very best.
Thank you to Mrs. Walsh, Mrs. Rizzotto, Mrs. Fortin, Mrs. Hibbitt,
Ms. Del-Re and Mrs. Edmunds for preparing the students.
Thank you to Mrs. Ricciuto, Mr. Thomas, Mrs. Terek, Mr. Mullen
for their support.
Bikes
Students must walk their bike on school property,
wear a helmet and lock their bike to the bike rack.
Students are able to register their bike with the
police.
Catholic Education Centre Schools Program
Once again, we are delighted to welcome the Catholic Education
Centre Program to our school. This is a Ministry of Education
funded program that provides an alternative learning opportunity
for students who require specialized support. The focus is on
literacy, numeracy and overall student achievement and well
being. This program responds to the educational needs of young
people for whom the regular pattern of school and/or family life is
interrupted for a variety of reasons. The Dufferin-Peel Catholic
District School Board continues to offer support for these programs in collaboration with community agencies and the Ministry
of Education. We look forward to another successful year welcoming our CEC School Program students, as well as their parents/guardians.
Nominations for membership on our Catholic School Council will
begin again at the end of September 2013. Our BBQ is tentatively scheduled for September 19th, 2013.
September 2013
It continues to be our practice to provide class placement information only in September, and as such, we also maintain that
placement is tentative until Reorganization Day. Typically, on
the first day of school, students from Grades1-8 are asked to
gather on the pavement at the back of the school according to
Grade levels, with signs posted on the walls. Teachers will have
their tentative class lists and will gather their students and escort them into the school. New students are asked to come to
the front office where they will be taken to their class.
Should the weather be inclement, we will have to proceed indoors. We would ask Kindergarten students to go through the
Kindergarten yard and teachers will take them inside the classrooms. The rest of the students will be asked to gather in the
Gym where they will be organized according to classes.
We understand that parents will be waiting in the yard until the
first day process is in place. Please know that your children’s
safety is important to us. To this end, we ask that only staff be
in the school yard and that parents wait around the perimeter of
the playground. Should you have any questions or concerns
please speak with the supervising staff, in the orange vests.
Lost and Found
If your children are missing any personal items, lunch bag,
clothes, shoes and boots please have them check the lost and
found. Any unclaimed articles will be donated at the end of June.
Volunteers
Our School welcomes and encourages participation of volunteers. Your support provides many educational advantages to
our staff and students. Ontario legislation requires that all volunteers wishing to assist in the classroom or chaperone school
trips have a completed Criminal Reference Check on file at the
school. Applications are available at the School. When you fill
out your application please submit the form to the Peel Police
Department.
