St. Martin of Tours 905 279 5742 Catholic School Council Chair: Farewells It is with both joy and sadness that we congratulate and thank the following staff for their generous contributions to our St. Jerome community as they move on to a new chapter in their lives. Leaving us at the end of the year are our three fabulous long term occasional teachers: Ms. Coccimiglio, Ms. Neiva and Mr. Parayil. We also want to thank Mme. Alcasid who will be moving to St. Christopher School, Mme Choy and Mr. Huh who will be moving to St. Valentine School, and Mrs. Cugliari who will be moving to St. Pio of Pietrelcina School. We send with them our appreciation for sharing their gifts with us at St. Jerome! Two people in our community are retiring this year. Mr. Zappia is retiring after many years at St. Jerome and Mrs. Saytar, our Mississauga South Family of Schools Superintendent, is also retiring this year. We send our heartfelt thanks to both of them for their support and dedication to St. Jerome School. We wish them both much happiness in their retirement! M. Fleese Web-site: www.dpcdsb.org/jerom Faith Life Around the School Virtue of the Month: Indoor Shoes/Change of Clothes Please ensure that your child comes to school prepared to go outside for recess and lunch hour breaks. It is the expectation that each child comes dressed appropriately to go outside to enjoy the weather and get some fresh air and exercise. If your child is prone to getting wet during recess, please send a change of clothes, especially socks and sweat pants. Please ensure that your child brings a pair of indoor shoes to school. Please label the shoes for our primary students. Running shoes are preferred because they are safe and can also be used for gym. Please ensure that the shoes have non-marking soles. We appreciate your continued support! Fairness God wants us to treat each other as we would like to be treated. Fairness is defined as a world where different races and cultures live in harmony and mutual respect. We are made by God to live together, to share and to help each other. You can’t be a Christian alone. Christianity is all about living together in community. Fairness is the belief that everyone deserves an opportunity to succeed, it is not always about making things exactly equal. A Fair Person: Listens to all sides before forming opinions Shows good sportsmanship at all times Knows that the same rules apply to everyone Refuses to twist rules to avoid consequences Works to bring about peaceful solutions to problems Cheers on the success of others Can balance their own rights and responsibilities with those of others End of the Year Mass Please join us as we celebrate our year end mass together on June 14 at 1:30 p.m. The mass will be celebrated at school. It is a wonderful opportunity to give praise and glory to God as the community of St. Jerome School. A special thank you to Father Joyson, Father Gigo and the parish team at St. Martin of Tours for their spiritual guidance and support! Daily Food Bank Before the school year ends, please consider donating a few non-perishable food items to the SVP food bank at St. Martin of Tours Parish. The Society depends on donations of food (often from our Parish schools) to keep the shelves stocked. Food items often run low over the summer and all of the food donated goes directly to the needy families in our own Parish. Donations of peanut butter, breakfast cereals, baby food, tuna, canned meat, pasta, and pasta sauce are particularly welcome and can be dropped off in our school foyer. Thank you for your continued generosity! ECO Club News Ontario ECO Schools is an environmental education and certification program for grades K-12 that helps school communities develop both ecological literacy and environmental practices to become environmentally responsible citizens and reduce the ecological footprint of schools. Ontario ECO Schools’ resources offer an environmental perspective to the choices we make in operating our schools and in planning classroom programs based on the Ontario curriculum. It consists of four components: ecological literacy, waste management, energy conservation and school ground greening. We are reminded to always think and act with the environment in mind and to remember that as ecology teaches us that everything is connected to everything else! We want to extend a huge thank you to Mrs. Read and Mrs. Srutwa for taking on this enormous task. A special thank you to all the ECO club members for their dynamic ideas and dedication to this worthwhile initiative. Stewardship and taking care of our earth is everyone’s responsibility. We all have to care for the environment and to protect it for future generations! We will be continuing this initiative next year and we will be looking for new projects and ideas to protect our world! We have also been accepted as a healthy school in the Ministry of Education Healthy School Initiative! Well done St. Jerome! Track and Field Our Track and Field day will be held on June 6. Students will have an opportunity to try out for the different track and field events, with parental permission. Teachers have been busy preparing our junior and intermediate students for the Family Meet on June 18 and ultimately for the Board Meet on June 21. Good Luck to all our students! Kiss ‘N Ride PLEASE NOTE THAT CARS ARE NOT TO USE THE BUS LANE AT ANY TIME. Parents are also asked to use our proper Kiss ‘N Ride lanes and not to pull into the school lanes. If you are dropping off a lunch for your child please park your car in a designated parking spot or on the street. Please note that if you are using the Kiss ‘N Ride you should not be getting out of your car to help a child exit, you should not pop open your truck to retrieve knapsacks, and all students must exit from the right passenger side of the car for their safety. Please drive safely and take your time. Our focus is always to keep all of our students safe. We do not retain medications from one year to the next. New medications and the proper forms for storage will need to be filled out for the new school year. We will send an individual reminder to all parents affected by this policy. Lost and Found Parents we will be leaving the lost and found on tables in the foyer until Friday, June 21st.
