MFM1P1 Name: _______________ Unit 5 Relations Assignment – Your Pattern After spending the unit learning about patterns and how they relate to linear relations, it’s time for you to show you know what to do! Pattern What is the pattern you will be choosing? You can pick anything that can be modelled by a growing pattern in real life. If you are able to draw your pattern, you can (but you don’t have to!). Use the space provided to you here. Explain your choice as well. Position Number 1 Position Number 2 Position Number 3 Table of Values Now that you have your pattern, complete the table of values. Note: You may need to find the first differences! Position Number (x) 1 Number of items in Pattern (y) First Differences Equation Now that you have a table of values and a pattern, you should be able to make an equation. Remember that the equation looks like 𝑦 = 𝑚𝑥 + 𝑐, and is made up of the rate of change and a constant. The rate of change goes in for the letter m (since it’s the multiplier) and the constant goes in for the c. Graph Finally, you can graph everything! Use the information you’ve gathered from the previous parts, and make a graph. Include all labels and draw your line of best fit. Note: If you prefer, you can use Excel to draw your graph. Save your graph, and let the teacher know that you wish to use (or already used) Excel. Your graph will be printed. Unit 5 Assignment
