The Virtue of April is Love
A PRAYER FOR LOVE
Teach me to love, Lord, as You love, Make it unconditional, honest, and kind,
To ask nothing back in return, Lord, To encompass the whole of mankind.
May I offer my love without speaking, May it radiate as it shines forth from me,
May it be seen in my face and my eyes, Lord,
May it be simple, sincere, and shame free.
Show me how to forgive, Lord, as You do, To not burden another with guilt,
To not play the role of the martyr, To be a rock on which trust may be built.
Make my love for others be greater by far than any love that is offered to me,
Led by the Spirit, Inspired of God, As forgiving as Jesus...and free.
Amen
VIRTUES PROGRAM - APRIL ~ LOVE
This month we will celebrate the virtue of love.
God has given us many guidelines and examples of how to
live our lives. He sent his Son Jesus to make sure that we could see what life
could be like.
Jesus made one lesson clear above all other lessons - the lesson to love. Love is
not about us - it is about forgetting ourselves and looking out for the good of
the other. That’s what Jesus did - He forgot about Himself on purpose. He
chose to give up his life for the good of others - us!
Becoming a truly loving person is challenging. It takes prayer and concentration to get used to making little sacrifices on purpose so that others will have a
bit of food, a bit of shelter, a bit of peace, a bit of quiet, a bit of fun, a bit of
friendship.
Through prayer and concentration, we can get better at showing love to everyone we meet.
A Loving Person…
 Wants the best for others
 Is willing to make sacrifices for the good of others
 Learns from the heroic lives of saints & holy people
 Knows that we are all lovable
Each year, the Catholic
community of Ontario
engages in a week-long
celebration of the
unique identity and distinctive contributions
of Catholic education
during Catholic Education Week. This year’s
celebration entitled, “Opening Doors of Mercy” is
scheduled for the week of May 1 – May 6, 2016.
Catholic schools are Catholic faith communities. We
– parents, students, teachers, administrative and support staff – walk and grow together in the faith which
we received at our Baptism. Our growth is primarily
a relationship with God, who at our Baptism, called
us by name. But the response of each of us to that
growth is both personal and communal. We grow in
our faith in the nurturing atmosphere of our Catholic
community be that of our local parish, our home, or
our Catholic school community. The scriptural passage that guides our theme is: “Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.” – Matthew 5:7
Further information regarding Catholic Education
Week will be forthcoming.
BIG CRUNCH AND GULP
AT CTK
Christ The King School participated
in the “Big Crunch/Gulp” event. All
students gathered in the gym on the
afternoon of March 10th and viewed the presentation
created by the Eco Team Students to promote healthy
eating. The students learned many interesting facts
about ‘carrots” including the importance of their nutrition value. The countdown began, and at 2:30 p.m.
Christ The King children took a big “crunch” into a
delicious nutritional treat. This presentation was also
followed by the “Big Gulp challenge”. All students
brought in their reusable water bottles, to learn about
the importance of water conservation and re-using,
reducing and recycling. Thank you to Mrs. Gizzi,
Mrs. DaRosa, and the Eco team for organizing such a
‘fun’ inspiring event for our children!
ARE YOU MOVING?
Please inform the office if you know that
you will be moving and your children
will not be returning to Christ the King
School for September 2016.
Eco—School
An ongoing initiative at Christ the King school is to encourage a more eco-friendly environment. Over the next several months, there will be various activities that focus on this
message. We will promote litterless lunches, use of re-useable water bottles, anti-idling,
and walk to school day. Parents are encouraged to support this venture by participating in
the program to promote a more eco-friendly school.
Activities on a regular basis include:
Monday: Walk to school day
Tuesday: L.O.L lunches (Lights out at Lunch)
Wednesday: Litterless Lunch Day
Thursday: Trashless Thursday
Friday : Boomerang Lunch
Tips for Boomerang Lunch
A boomerang lunch is a lunch that has every piece of it return to its source.
In other words, everything in the lunch goes back home at the end of the day. No matter if it is leftover
food, containers, recyclables or garbage, it all goes back. Yes, even the garbage!
Purpose: To increase awareness of the amount of waste created in one day’s lunch
Winning Class for walk to school day is:
Primary - Mrs. Pasma
Intermediate - Ms. Adkins
Junior - Mrs. Kennedy
Over the past year a number of our school volunteers have so generously given their
time and talents to make our children’s educational experience “richer” in all areas!
We would like to express our appreciation by inviting our volunteers to a “Volunteer
Appreciation Breakfast” on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 ~ 8:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. It is our
hope that many of you will be able to join us at this time. Thank you to Mrs. Goodman and her committee for organizing such a special event.

Mathematics, 2015 -2016 will be held May 30th , 31st and June 1st for Grade
6 students and May 25 - 27 for Grade 3 students. We ask that parents/
guardians do not book any doctor or dentist appointments during this time to
ensure that your child is present during test taking.
EQAO Parent Tips
Stay Positive
· Always celebrate your child’s successes and hard work each day.
· Remind your child that the assessment will have questions asking them things that they have already learned
in class.
· Please avoid scheduling appointments during EQAO.
· Be sure your child receives enough sleep every night so that they are rested.
· Continue to ensure that your child eats a healthy full break-fast and remembers to keep a positive and relaxed attitude in the home environment.
· Do not force your child to study for these tests. They are already working hard at school.
· For additional information on grades 3 and 6 testing visit the EQAO website at www.eqao.com and click on
“Parent Resources”.
Something to Remember:
Although EQAO offers important information about your child’s learning, it is only one part of the puzzle. The levels
achieved on EQAO will not be a part of your child’s report card. The results of your child’s EQAO scores will be provided to each family in the fall.

Please inform the office if you know that you will be moving and your children will not be returning to Christ the King School for September 2016.
Due to the “tentative” nature of our enrolment for September, teacher assignments and grade placements cannot be finalized until late August.
At the beginning of June the staff will be working on drafting tentative class
lists for the next school year. This is a complex process, which takes into consideration not only the
needs of the individual child, but frames those needs in the context of the larger student group. In each
class, we strive for a balance of learning styles, a balance of gender, a balance of learning needs, and a
cross-section of abilities.
Any parental requests as to the teaching style preferred for their children are to be submitted to
Mrs. Lang in writing by May 2, 2016. Please note that combined classes will continue to exist and
are a part of every school.
