If you have asked an RA to complete a letter of recommendation for you, you may NOT interview that RA. You will want to ask the RA about the following items: Have the RA describe their roles and responsibilities as an RA Ask how the RA position affects their academic and social lives What are their more favorite and less favorite aspects of the position What are some issues that impact students living in the residence halls? What does it means to be a member of the Residence Life team? How did they adjust to working with a team? Ask the RA about programming-what has been their favorite program and why? Once you have held this interview, please write a response detailing answers to the following questions. The response should be typed and no longer than three pages double spaced. 1. What did you learn that you were not already aware of regarding the RA position? 2. What did you learn are the most important roles and responsibilities of the RA position? 3. Based on the interview, what is one thing you are most excited about? And what one thing are you apprehensive about? 4. Give your own experience and abilities, what do you think will be the most challenging part of the position? What part of the position will come most easily to you? 5. Based on your conversation with an RA, what does it mean to be a part of a team? What characteristics, talents or skills would you bring to a team? 6. What are some issues impacting students in a residence hall? What is one issue that you definitely would address as an RA? Describe how you would address the issue? 7. What was the RAs favorite program? What has been your favorite program that you have attended (if you are commuter think about a program on campus) on your wing or in your hall? How did the program you attended impact you? It can be a collage, photograph, painting, poem, or anything that will help the interviewers learn something about you. You will be asked to explain your item at your interview. The final project must be within 8 ½” x 11” and flat so it can fit in a file folder. □ SCHEDULE Please print out the spring schedule and turn in with this application. (Can be found at www.xavier.edu/oneapp) □ EXTRA FORMS Please note that the Role Modeling Statement and the RA Training Commitment located within the OneApp will be signed during Fall RA Training. Please make sure to have agreed on the OneApp. 2 □ RECOMMENDATIONS All recommendations must be returned, by the applicant, to the Office of Residence Life by 5:00pm on Tuesday, January 19th, 2016. The Office of Residence Life is located in the Musketeer Mezzanine in Fenwick Place. Recommendations should not be faxed or mailed. If you have waived your right to access the reference, please have the recommender submit it in a sealed envelope with their name signed over the seal. Reminder: Due to the GPA requirements of the position, all RA applicants will have their GPAs confirmed. Students with GPAs lower than the requirement will be removed from the process. Additionally, due to the fact RAs must be in good standing conduct-wise with the University, applicants will have their conduct record reviewed. Good standing means that applicants must not be on Residence Life or University probation. Students who are not in good conduct standing will be removed from the process. If your GPA is lower than the requirement or you have a conduct record and want to provide more information about either, please provide us with that information on a separate sheet. Thank you!
