□ RESEARCH and RESPONSE
Please choose an RA to interview about being an RA. If you have asked an RA to complete a letter of
recommendation for you, you may NOT interview that RA. You will want to ask the RA about the
following items:
 Have the RA describe their roles and responsibilities as an RA
 Ask how the RA position affects their academic and social lives
 What are their more favorite and less favorite aspects of the position
 What are some issues that impact students living in the residence halls?
 What does it means to be a member of the Residence Life team? How did they adjust to
working with a team?
 Ask the RA about programming-what has been their favorite program and why?
Once you have held this interview, please write a response detailing answers to the following
questions. The response should be typed and no longer than three pages double spaced.
1. What did you learn that you were not already aware of regarding the RA position?
2. What did you learn are the most important roles and responsibilities of the RA position?
3. Based on the interview, what is one thing you are most excited about? And what one thing are
you apprehensive about?
4. Give your own experience and abilities, what do you think will be the most challenging part of
the position? What part of the position will come most easily to you?
5. Based on your conversation with an RA, what does it mean to be a part of a team? What
characteristics, talents or skills would you bring to a team?
6. What are some issues impacting students in a residence hall? What is one issue that you
definitely would address as an RA? Describe how you would address the issue?
7. What was the RAs favorite program? What has been your favorite program that you have
attended (if you are commuter think about a program on campus) on your wing or in your hall?
How did the program you attended impact you?
COMMUTERS PLEASE NOTE: If you are a commuter and need assistance finding an RA to schedule an
interview with, please contact Cindy Stieby, Assistant Director of Residence Life at lowman@xavier.edu
or Brandon Blackmer, Fenwick Hall Director at blackmerb@xavier.edu.
□ PERSONAL EXPRESSION
We would like you to prepare an item that tells us about you. It can be a collage, photograph, painting,
poem, or anything that will help the interviewers learn something about you. You will be asked to
explain your item at your interview. The final project must be within 8 ½” x 11” and flat so it can fit in a
file folder.
□ SCHEDULE
Please print out the spring schedule and turn in with this application. (Can be found at
