Barren County Schools Student Technology Appropriate Use Policy (AUP) “2014-2015” What is the AUP? O A contract you agree to each time you log on to the computers. O YOU promise to make ethical decisions and use technology for education purposes. Why Do We Have an AUP? O Ensure you will be respectful to others and to the equipment. O Computers and technology have been abused in the past. Computers and Technology O Are a privilege O Without computers and technology, the educational process is limited. O Examples: Research beyond school, state, and nation to international areas. Helps reduce paper/pencil/textbook routine, etc.) What happens if I violate the AUP? O Disciplinary action O Loss of computer/technology use O Failure of this course O Criminal charges (in extreme cases) Vandalism . O Students will not engage in any illegal activity including copyright infringement, vandalism, or harassment on the computer. O You will be held financially responsible and disciplinary action will take place Financially Responsible O You will be financially responsible for any malicious damage or vandalism that you cause. O Vandalism is any attempt to harm or destroy any part of the computer, the operating system, or any applications installed on the computer; or to tamper with another person’s data. Computer Defaults O You may not alter the setup of any school computers or load programs or services without the permission of the School Technology Coordinator and/or principal. O This includes the desktop screen saver and email backgrounds. Your Information O The District Technology Team (Steve Gumm, Cory Goode, Quinten Staples), School Technology Coordinator (RuthAnn Gumm), Computer/Business Teacher (Cindy Jackson) have the right to access any information stored in your user directory (H Drive), in your computer email account, or on the current screen. Criminal Charges O In extreme cases criminal charges may be filed depending on the severity of the violation and the district's discretion. Computer Lab Rules O You are to work on assignments for this class ONLY when at your workstation. O If you finish your assignment for this class and want to work on another teacher’s assignment, you permission first. must ask for O You ARE NOT to play games, watch videos, be on Facebook, etc while in this room AT ANY TIME unless the teacher has given you permission to do so. O All of the above will result in you being written up for lack of cooperation. O You are not to have your personal electronic devices out for any reason. (Not even to charge them) Internet Usage--Educational Sites O You cannot visit sites that have no educational purpose. O Ask permission before you get on the Internet and let the teacher know why you are using the Internet. O Being on the Internet when you have an assignment for this class will earn you a write-up for lack of cooperation. Internet Usage O All of your internet traffic of site visits and duration of time on the pages are logged. O Students have lost computer privileges because of inappropriate sites that were logged. Internet Usage O You must NOT access social media such as Facebook or other chat areas. O Word of Advice: Watch what you put on Facebook/Instagram/Twitter/ SnapChat or other social media that will hurt you in the future, personally and professionally. O Employers DO check social medias concerning prospective new hires. Email Usage O The use of your school email is for educational purposes only!!!!. O The content of your email will be randomly checked. O You cannot change email backgrounds. O You will sometimes use your school email to submit assignments. Email Usage O You cannot open, forward, or create chain letters, jokes of the day, prayers of the day, or any other form of non-educational email. O All third party email accounts (i.e. gmail, hotmail, yahoo mail, etc.) are expressly prohibited. Email Usage--Harassment O You are not to send harassing emails to anyone for any reason. O Again, emails are logged and all content can be used against you. Network O You must not attempt to access the network with other user accounts or give your account information to another user. O Doing so will result in the immediate loss of your user account and computer privileges. Network O Your user account, which gives you access to the internet, email, and your home folder, may be terminated and privileges taken away if you do not follow these AUP guidelines. Warning!!! O Do not ignore the AUP. O Students have lost their privilege to the computers and technology, thus failing this class due to not being able to complete their assignments. How Well Did You Listen? O Did you understand what was being discussed? O After completing your daily assignment over the Computer and Electronic Usage and Classroom Procedures, turn in your sheet to your class period’s basket. O You will have a quiz over this content after it has been checked in class.
