Iona Catholic Secondary School - SOCIAL SCIENCES DEPARTMENT Course Outline: INTRODUCTION TO ANTHROPOLOGY, PSYCHOLOGY AND SOCIOLOGY, Grade 11 University/College Preparation Course Code: HSP 3M Introduction: This course explores the general theories, questions, assumptions, and issues that form the basis of study for anthropology, psychology, and sociology. Methods of research and approaches used by social scientists in examining topics of study will be examined and employed by students. Opportunities to explore theories from a variety of perspectives with a focus on classical and contemporary approaches used by social scientists in the three disciplines will be presented to the students. Students will be encouraged to apply these skills to a wide range of issues that impact society and to critically examine current thinking on these issues and will also learn to develop and support a hypothesis, conduct research and analysis, and effectively communicate the results of their inquiries. Missed Test Policy a) Students who have previous knowledge that they will be absent for a test must notify the instructor prior to the test so that an alternate time to write the test can be arranged. b) Any student who is absent on the day in which a test is being written is expected to write the test on the day of return from the absence or on the day and time specified by the course instructor. If the absence is for an extended period of time, on the day of return, the student must make alternate arrangements with the course instructor to schedule a day to write the test.
