English II students will write essays, speeches, on-demands, open-responses, and journal entries. ASSIGNED SEATING: You will have an assigned seat, and you will be required to sit there. I reserve the right to make changes to the seating arrangement if necessary. DAILY WORK: Class begins as soon as the bell rings. There will be an activity posted or handed out as you come in, and you should begin working on it right away. These “bell ringers” will be taken up every other week for a grade. MAKE-UP WORK: Check the ‘while you were out’ tray for handouts you may have missed while out. If you missed a test, you may take a make-up test before or after school in my classroom. LATE WORK: For each day a homework assignment is turned in late, points will be deducted. CELL PHONES: Are not permitted to be in use in the classroom. Please keep them on silent and put away during class time. Students who violate this rule will be reported. CLASSROOM DISCIPLINE: I expect each student to follow the rules in my classroom. I will give one warning if a rule is broken. If a student continues to misbehave, he/she will be written up and reported to the office. Parents/guardians will be notified to report your progress. HALL PASS Students must sign out on the class sign-out sheet and take the hall pass. The pass is on a lanyard and must be worn around your neck and remain visible while out of the classroom. Only one student out of class at a time. ATTENDANCE POLICY: The school’s make-up work policy will apply. Work may be made up before or after school and must be scheduled with me. Students will not be allowed to make up work during class time. PLAGIARISM/ACADEMIC DISHONESTY POLICY: Plagiarism and academic dishonesty are serious offenses. The academic work of a student is expected to be his/her own effort. Students must give the author(s) credit for any source material used. To represent ideas or interpretations taken from a source without giving credit is a flagrant act. To present a borrowed passage after having changed a few words, even if the source is cited, is also plagiarism. Students who commit any act of academic dishonesty will receive a failing grade in that portion of the course work. Acts of academic dishonesty will be reported to the administration. ………………………………………………………………………………………….
