Toni Valle EDUCATION Graduated Suma Cum Laude with a B.A. in Theatre Arts, specializing in Dance from the University of Houston in 2000. Performed three years with the University of Houston ENSEMBLE, UH’s pre-professional dance company. Attended two years at Houston Community College Central and danced with the HCC Repertory, the pre-professional dance company at HCC, under Deborah Quanaim. Graduated Clear Lake High School in 1987. AWARDS Received the Diverse Works Performance Residency Grant 2006, a competitive grant for Houston individual artists. Received the Emerging Fellowship Award 2000 from the Cultural Arts Council of Houston/Harris County to produce a full-length concert. Her choreography, “It’s All Relative,” chosen for the American College Dance Festival Gala in 2001. Graduated with honors, Suma Cum Laude from University of Houston in 2000. Was placed on the Dean’s List at University of Houston from 1998-2000 Received the Dancer of the Year Award from University of Houston in 2000 Received a Scholarship from University of Houston in 2000 for outstanding academic performance. A member of the Johnny Harris Writer’s Club, for poetry, prose, and short stories. Was placed for two years on HCC’s Dean’s List, and was a member of Phi Theta Kappa for honor students. Received the Dean’s Scholarship from Houston Community College in 1997-98 for academic performance. Received a one-year Theatre Scholarship form Clear Lake High School in 1987. PRODUCTION AND ADMINISTRATION Administrator since 2000 and currently Project Director for Dance Source Houston (formerly Houston Dance Coalition/Initiative). Dance Source Houston is the producer of A Weekend of Texas Contemporary Dance. Weekend, now in its twelfth year, is a concert at Miller Outdoor Theatre that highlights 8-10 Texas contemporary dance companies each year. DSH also produces A Tapestry of World Dance, a concert highlighting Houston’s cultural dance, now in its second year. As Project Director, Ms. Valle plays an integral role in the marketing, production, and administration of these concerts. She also manages the www.houstondance.org website – a listing of Houston-area performances, reviews and previews, The Dance Card, a printed version of the website that is inserted into dance playbills and distributed throughout Houston; the DSH marketing table that is set up at dance events to help promote the dance community, and the DSH Weekly Dance Newsletter – an email newsletter listing workshops, auditions, events, and dancerelated notices that reach over 500 dance enthusiasts throughout Texas. Ms. Valle as Project Director also provides administrative and promotional help to the art and dance community, including the Houston Ballet, Society of Performing Arts, the Jewish Community Center, DiverseWorks, The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts, Barnevelder Movement Arts Complex, as well as over 20 small individual dance and art companies. T. Valle Resume 1 Currently an adjunct faculty at University of Houston, teaching Dance Production. Ms. Valle teaches how to fund, market, and produce, a professional dance concert. She assists students in producing the annual student and faculty dance concerts. Worked as administrator for four years for the Sandra Organ Dance Company. Worked three years as facilitator for Fieldwork, a 10-week creative and feedback workshop through Several Dancers Core and The Field based in New York City. Produced the Austin-Houston Choreographer Exchange 2002. Co-produced BBAP Presents… with Buffalo Bayou ArtPark, a collaboration between visual artists and choreographers. Danced in and worked as administrator for UH Choreography in Action series, a DE course at the University of Houston that originally aired on Houston PBS. CHOREOGRAPHY Premiering CRACKED, an evening length dance-theatre concert, in December 2006 as a recipient of the DiverseWorks 2006 Artist Residency. Premiered Interview for a Date/I Take My Clothes Off at Big Range Dance Festival 2006. Premiered I am Mother at Big Range Dance Festival (2004). The piece was then adapted as the central character for Psophonia’s Phantasia 2005. Collaborated with musician, Misha Penton, for 2 premieres at Big Range Dance Festival: Mockingbird (2004) and Hopscotch (2005) Currently Resident Choreographer for Dancepatheatre. Co-Produced Dancepatheatre’s, Life Museum (2003), as well as premiered two original works: Glass Before Marriage, and LifeSavor. Collaborated with visual artist, Teresa O’Connor, for the art exhibit, Space (2002) and Waiting for BBAP Presents… (2003). Choreographed works for UH ENSEMBLE, San Jacinto College, DiverseWorks’ Monday Night Footfall, 12 Minutes Max, and The Field. Choreographed and produced an evening-length concert It’s All Relative (2002) as part of her Emerging Fellowship Award from CACHH.
