INFORMATION/DISCUSSION/PRESENTATIONS
Terri Pyer
1. Update from state advisory committee
Terri discussed the new funding formula for state EEO funds of multiple measures. She mentioned that in
the past Title 5 has providing funding to districts based only on FTES, but starting this year, Districts also
will be awarded funds based on whether they have met multiple methods of achieving EEO goals. Because
we will meet those methods, we anticipate receiving an FTES-based sum of $5,000 and a multiple methods
sum of $45,000. Next year the award will be based only on the new method. Terri suggested that we think
of some activities for next year. It would be great to start a speaker series.
2. EEO plan-due June 2016/Office of IPE
Terri Pyer
Terri discussed the EEO plan with the committee. She mentioned that only 65% of colleges submitted one
yet (originally due in 2013) and we were one of them. We are required to submit a plan to the
Chancellor’s Office, which must go through the participatory governance process first. Terri will share a

draft with the committee after she takes it to cabinet. Terri said that if we have a final version in February
we will share it between meetings. Discussion centered on component 9 and the requirement for annual
written notice to community organizations. She asked for some ideas of professional organizations/groups
for creating a list to reach out as broadly as possible. Terri also shared the IPE website with the committee
and directed them to all of the available external resources to spark up some ideas. One resource, “The
nation’s changing demographics-Hispanic trends” by Pew Research Center was shown to the committee
and some discussion centered around this.
3. Spring Activities and Events
Terri Pyer
Terri asked the committee to think about some event ideas for Spring. It could be around literature or
something very different. Discussion centered around inviting novelists to come out to Hartnell College
such as previously done with the book club with the theme Tortilla Curtain. One possibility is a spring
theatre event that Melissa is working on with a theater group from San Francisco.
4. Website, monthly messages, outreach
Terri Pyer
Terri wants the committee to develop a diversity website to push out to people to let them know we are
around. Gabe, Brenda, and Taylor agreed to work on this.
OTHER ITEMS/BRIEF ANNOUNCEMENTS
1. Terri will ask the IPE Office to add a diversity section on its “external resources” section of the website, and
will provide a copy of an updated EEO plan draft to the committee. She will also speak with Melissa on
other things she is working on. Taylor will follow up with Luis Rodriguez and Gabriel will follow up with
Harry Edwards to assist us with our diversity outreach efforts.
2. Alicia Samis, first-year faculty in psychology, visited our committee, and has experience working with
campus climate surveys at other colleges she has worked at. She is visiting committees this month, and
was invited to join our committee if she would like.
