CALL TO ORDER & INTRODUCTIONS
Meeting called to order at 2:15pm by Terri Pyer.
ACTION ITEMS
1. Approved February 18, 2016 agenda.
2. Minutes of January 21, 2016 were approved.
INFORMATION/DISCUSSION/PRESENTATIONS
1. Spring theatre event: Undocumented Youth Theatre group
M. Parker
Melissa distributed a hand-out about the San Francisco Youth Theatre and their performance titled In and Out of
Shadows by Gary Soto. She would like to invite this group to present at Hartnell and has reached out to elementary
and middle schools to invite them to this presentation. She has enough staff for a matinée but will need help with the
7:00 pm showing i.e. collecting tickets, directing to seats, etc. Melissa indicated that she is not sure of what the cost
will be to bring them to Hartnell but commented that in the past she has applied and received additional funding from
Star Foundation, Supporting Theatre Arts Regionally. She said it’s an easy funding request and they award up to
$5,000 to help support bringing theatre in.
Melissa also distributed another hand-out titled New York Photographer Turns Strangers into Friends. It’s about a
photographer (Richard Renaldi) in New York who gathers strangers and poses them in intimate poses, and then finds
that people feel more connected and more empathetic after the experience. Renaldi has made over 150 of these
portraits of strangers coming together over the course of six years.
