ACTION ITEMS 1. April 21, 2016 Agenda approved. 2. March 17, 2016 minutes approved. INFORMATION/DISCUSSION/PRESENTATIONS M. Parker 1. Recap of “In & Out of Shadows”, March 18 Melissa provided an update about the March 18th performance of “In & Out of Shadows.” It was a fabulous evening. We had 100 attend the day performance and approximately 280 in the evening. There were quite a few students who attended. The Western Stage took in about $1,015 dollars, $715 ticket sales in box office sales and another $100 from outside groups. Between this and the Tortilla Curtain event, we have served about 1,000 people. 2. Recap of Diversity Hiring Training, March 25 T. Pyer Terri reported that we contracted Laura Schulkind to conduct training. She did two presentations and we received great feedback from participants. Our institutional stance is that you cannot participate on a hiring committee unless you have been through this training. 3. Update: Website Taylor Finell 1 Hartnell College Mission Statement Hartnell College provides the leadership and resources to ensure that all students shall have equal access to a quality education and the opportunity to pursue and achieve their goals. We are responsive to the learning needs of our community and dedicated to a diverse educational and cultural campus environment that prepares our students for productive participation in a changing world. Taylor reported that he and Gabriel received Drupal training to create a webpage. They took everyone’s advice as to content and next week will meet with Laura Lark, instructional technologist, to start working on this. Taylor also reported that he will be leaving Hartnell College as he was hired by MPC as FT History Instructor. 4. BP/AP 7100 Commitment to Diversity T. Pyer Terri reported that BP 7100 was presented to Cabinet three weeks ago and it should make its way through the participatory governance process. 5. DRAFT EEO Plan Revision T. Pyer Terri shared the draft EEO Plan and reported that she will email the finished version to committee members. All colleges are required to have an EEO plan to be reviewed/revised every 3 years. Discussion followed. 6. News from State: Multiple Measures ; webinar materials; Draft compliance form T. Pyer Terri reported that we used to get money for diversity based only on FTES, but now we will do a yearly certification on our performance of 9 multiple methods to show our commitment to diversity. She reviewed each method with the committee and will bring the completed form back to the group at its May meeting. 7. Planning Ahead M. Chin-Parker Some upcoming events include 5 de Mayo with guest speaker Dr. Sergio Chavez who is a Hartnell College alumnus. It’s an informative presentation on internal and international migration. Amy said that we will have two Mental Health Awareness events in collaboration with Augustine Nevarez on May 12 & 13. The Western Stage’s 2016 season has been announced, and it includes Luis Valdez’s Bandido in September, and we should consider doing some diversity programming around that. Terri mentioned that she would nominate Kimberly Papillon for the Educator in Residence, so that she could do a presentation on implicit bias for flex days. OTHER ITEMS/BRIEF ANNOUNCEMENTS 1.
