In accordance with the Minnesota Food Code, this
certification will be accepted by the state of
Minnesota to fulfill requirements set forth by the
Minnesota Food Code (Minnesota Rules, Chapter
4626) and Minnesota Administrative Rule
4626.0155 3-201.16. Mushroom Foragers wishing
to sell their wild mushrooms to commercial
establishments in Minnesota must have taken a
course in “Mushroom Identification, Traceability
and Safe Food Handling” and provide
documentation (letter) of course completion from
an academic institute to the Minnesota
Department of Agriculture (MDA).
The following mushrooms will be included for this
identification certification:
Maitake
(Hen-of-the-Woods)
Grifola frondosa
Porcini
Boletus edulis
Lobster
Hypomyces lactifluorum
Cloud
Entoloma arbortivum

confidently recognize toxic look-alikes and best
transporting, cleaning, preparation and preservation.

exotic mushrooms and is currently the owner of
Gentleman Forager, a company that provides a wide
variety of wild mushrooms and other products of the forest
for commercial sale, sponsors educational classes on fungi,
and organizes many mushroom related public events
throughout the year, including the Minnesota Morel Fest.
