The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office is currently seeking motivated individuals with excellent supervisory, organizational and interpersonal skills to fill current and future Sheriff’s Records or Corrections Supervisor vacancies in the Administrative and Corrections Operation Bureaus. These non-safety positions work within a 24-hour, 7- day weekly schedule who supervises, evaluates, trains, directs support staff, and activities of the Sheriff’s Records Specialist or Corrections Specialists functions. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to effectively lead and supervise, get along with others and be a team player. The ideal candidate will also be able to effectively and efficiently communicate issues/situations to others while promoting a standard of excellence throughout the unit. THE SUCCESSFULL CANDIDATE Will demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and abilities: Thorough Knowledge of: Supervisory principles and practices, including work planning, scheduling, review and evaluation, and employee training and corrective action; Multiple automated and manual criminal justice systems and subsystems and TracNet Management; Departmental operations, procedures, and regulations; and criminal justice systems; Business information systems principles and the use of computer equipment; Correct English usage, grammar, and rules of punctuation and spelling; Business arithmetic, including percentages and decimals. Working Knowledge of: Office management practices and procedures, including records management and the operation of standard office equipment; Principles and legal requirements of law enforcement records management, preparation, processing, indexing, retention, disposition, storage and release; and related law enforcement documents, forms, terminology and procedures; Policies and procedures related to the Sheriff’s Records and Corrections Specialist units; Business letter writing and the standard format for typed materials; The duties of the Senior and Sheriff’s Records/Corrections Specialist. Skill and Ability to: Plan, assign, supervise, review and evaluate the work of others and the activities of the Sheriff’s Records and Corrections Specialist functions to include the interpretation of department policies, procedures, statutes and other authorities; Train others in work procedures; Read and interpret rules, policies, procedures and legal and court documents; Use initiative and sound judgment within established guidelines; Communicate effectively orally and in writing, write procedures and training programs, and motivate and train employees; Testify in court; Deal tactfully and effectively with a variety of individuals, some of who may be hostile or irate; Operate standard office equipment, including computers, radio, and centralized telephone equipment. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Supervise and direct the activities and support staff of the Records or Corrections Specialist functions. Evaluate employee performance and effectively recommend employee selection, initial corrective action, and other personnel actions. Train assigned staff in general and records or corrections procedures and specific laws, regulations, policies and procedures pertaining to the work. Assigns, reviews and performs Records Specialist or Corrections Specialist work.
