The Monterey County Sheriff's Office, Health Department and Emergency Communications Department are
currently seeking motivated individuals to fill Senior Departmental Information Systems Coordinator (DISC)
vacancies.
Sheriff’s Office:
This position is under the Administration Operations Bureau-Information Systems Unit and is responsible for
installing department specific software; assisting mobile data users with user and device connection support;
provides full hardware support to mobile computers, including hard drive swaps, coordinating with County Fleet
Management for wiring installations; acts as a liaison between the department and local law enforcement for law
enforcement application support; and works with confidential and sensitive data at all times.
Health Department:
This lead position in the Administration Bureau will be part of the Operations team of Health IT. This position is
responsible for the software, hardware, and peripheral device evaluation and support proprietary to Health
Department users operating in a diverse environment. The incumbent facilitates the enterprise support needed
from County Information Technology.
Emergency Communications Department:
The ideal candidate will have experience working in an emergency communications center. This is a technical,
hands‐on position responsible for the administration of the Center’s emergency communication systems and
applications, CAD system, 9-1-1 telephone and radio dispatch systems, voice logging recorders and other
associated networks, systems, and applications.
The Eligible List established by this recruitment process may be used to fill current and future vacancies as they
arise County-wide.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
 Acts as a resource for users of automated system applications; Answers questions and resolves problems
related to use and operation of the application; Coordinates a central help desk to resolve problems.

Coordinates with computer support personnel in identifying and resolving problems with the system,
including programs, workstations and other related hardware and software.

Confers with operating department personnel regarding changes in manual and computer system design;
Collaborates with others to improve the effectiveness of the system and to make recommendations for
systems and procedures improvements; Stays abreast of the new automated systems procedures, and
prepares on-line bulletins to inform users of changes or additions.

Documents and tracks system problems and writes reports on issues; Writes or assists in writing and
revising procedures, instructional materials or staff development tools for systems-related training.
THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE:
Will demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
Working knowledge of:

Capability and limitations of various computer operating systems including DOS, Windows and networks;

Computer applications used in data management;

Terminology related to computer hardware, software, network and peripheral equipment;

Some positions may require working knowledge of the functions, regulations, services, programs and
operations of the specific department;

Analytical Processes
Some Knowledge of:

Training methods and techniques of information systems applications;

Methods of error research and troubleshooting;

Some positions may require some knowledge of specialized automated systems and general applications
unique to the operating department from a user perspective.
Skill and Ability to:
Evaluate and interpret automated information systems functions from a user perspective; Identify, evaluate, and
research application systems problems and coordinate corrective actions, as required, with computer support
personnel; Gather information and analyze data to establish and maintain system user protocol; Make
recommendations for system and operational enhancements; Read and comprehend written materials on a wide
variety of application system subjects; Maintain confidentiality of information in accordance with legal standards
and/or County regulations; Organize, prioritize, schedule and coordinate work flow to meet project deadlines;
Communicate effectively with all levels of staff in the organization both orally and in writing; Provide excellent
and courteous customer service, establish, and maintain effective working relationships; Utilize effective
judgment regarding establishment and maintenance of application system features such as registration, user
profiles, system access security, e-mail administration, and appointment schedule templates.

Some positions may require applicants to possess a valid California C driver license issued from the CA
State Department of Motor Vehicles at the time of hire

Some positions may require applicants to successfully pass a complete background/suitability process,

This classification is covered by a MOU between Monterey County and SEIU Local 521, as a condition of your
employment, you will be required to pay a salary deduction of appropriate fees upon hire. Employment is
