Title:
Impact Leader I
Work Schedule:
Part-time – non-exempt, generally scheduled up to 25 hours per week, Mondays – Fridays,
between 8:00am and -7:00pm with occasional later evening and weekend responsibilities for
programming, training and special events.
Reports to:
Impact Specialist

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
Working under the direction of their assigned Supervisor, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County (BGCMC) Impact
Leader I plays an essential role in helping youth succeed as they directly serve as positive role models, mentors and
activity leaders to diverse youth between the ages of 6 to 18 years old. Helping these youth acquire the necessary
developmental assets they need to achieve Academic Success, adopt a Healthy Lifestyle and cultivate their Good
Character & Citizenship. Further, the BGCMC Impact Leader I is responsible for contributing to the following key
elements of positive youth development:

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITY:
1. Foster Positive, Appropriate Relationships with Youth

Learn the names, interests, backgrounds, strengths, etc. of youth;

Provide guidance, mentoring and role modeling to youth;

Engage youth in having fun while learning;

Recruit youth to participate in programs and activities;

Support youth in following Club Rules, addressing discipline situations using BGCMC positive discipline
approach which requires fairness, firmness, consistency and kindness;

Supervise youth on field trips;

Utilize BGCMC Incentive System effectively (e.g. awarding Boys & Girls Club Dollars, selecting Member of the
Month, etc.); and

Communicate effectively with parents and teachers.
2.
Lead Activities & Assist with Planning, Evaluating Programming

Assist youth in successfully completing homework afterschool;

Propose activities and assist with the development of High Yield Learning Activities (HYLA’s) in one or more of
the following Core Program Areas (be sure to indicate your preferred Areas and any skills and experience you
have related to each on your application – description of each is below in Experience & Skills section of Traits
and Skills):
o Education & Career Development
o Health & Life Skills
o The Arts
o Sports, Fitness & Recreation.
o Character Development & Leadership Development

Lead activities &/or facilitate programs in one or more of the Core Program Areas listed above;

Assist with implementing special events and activities to enhance Members’ knowledge, understanding and
skills (e.g., Family Nights, Reading Challenges, outreach, etc.); and

Assist with tracking and reporting program participation and outcomes, recommending modifications to activities
and programs that respond to youth needs and interests.

3. Maintain Safety, Cleanliness & Order

Maintain safety, cleanliness and order by using good judgment, enforcing rules fairly, firmly, consistently and
kindly as well as identifying and addressing anything out of order;

Ensure proper care of Boys & Girls Club property (e.g., learning supplies, sports equipment, tables, computers,
books, art supplies, etc.);

Respect confidentiality of Members, employees, volunteers and information; and

Contribute to the successful implementation of Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County policies and procedures,
professional standards and communication.

2.
EDUCATION
a. High school diploma or equivalent*
b. *Any employee assigned to school-based site must have 48 college credits or complete Assessment
with passing score.
3.
EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
a. Minimum of 6 months to a one year experience working the Youth Development profession and has
worked with youth between 6 to 18 years old.
b. Minimum of 6 months to a one year experience contributing to the implementation of curriculum and/or
programming for youth.
c. Must effectively show the ability to demonstrate classroom management skills.
d. Tech savvy, including proficiency in utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and Internet
for maximum productivity
e. Specialization in one or more of the following Programming Areas (be sure to specify which you
possess in your application):
i. Education and Career Development: Enabling youth to become proficient in basic educational
disciplines, apply learning to everyday situations, plan for higher education and careers and
embrace technology. (Specify any sub-areas as well in your application.)

ii. Recreation, Sports & Fitness – Promoting fitness, positive use of leisure time, building
character, developing skills for stress management, enhancing ones appreciation for the

iii. The Arts: Enabling youth the opportunities to express their creativity and explore cultural
awareness through knowledge and an appreciation for the visual and tactile arts & crafts,
performing arts, and creative writing. This includes a diversified fine arts program, arts & craft
classes, music and dance instruction.
iv. Character and Leadership Development: Empowering youth to support and influence their
Club and community, sustain meaningful relationships with others, develop a positive self–
image, participate in the democratic process and respect their own and other’s cultural
identities.
v. Health and Life Skills: Developing youth capacity to engage in positive behaviors that nurture
their own well-being, set personal goals and develop the competencies to live successfully as
self-sufficient adults.
Additionally, the following are highly desirable:



Bi-lingual English and Spanish;
Experience as a youth development professional in the Boys & Girls Club Movement; and
First Aid & CPR Certification (required to obtain within 90 days of employment).

COMPENSATION:
Pay rate begins at $10.00 to $10.51 per hour, and based on experience. Professional development opportunities are
available contingent upon funding and approval. This position is classified as non-exempt and as such is eligible for the
overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
