LIBRARY LEADERSHIP COUNCIL MINUTES APRIL 21, 2014 Present: Dean Connie Foster, Deana Groves, Brian Coutts, Jack Montgomery, Eric Fisher, Haiwang Yuan and Jan Renusch Minutes: The April 14, 2014, minutes were approved as submitted on a motion by Jack Montgomery and a 2nd by Eric Fisher. Dean’s Report/Announcements: Connie discussed several changes to the Library web site in light of a discussion with the provost. Library Systems Office: Eric gave highlights: -20 tasks/requests were completed -Issues with the shared drive folders have been corrected and all of the missing folders should now be restored. -The Library Systems Office will meet again tomorrow with the Helpdesk staff for a recap of how using the TeamDynamix site is working out, what changes may be needed, or if additional templates need to be added. A tutorial will be completed after the meeting for library faculty and staff for the most common requests. -Eric said the he will check into the Library TopCat Kiosk PCs to see if the web sites can be further restricted so they could only be used for searching rather than checking email, etc. -A 2nd monitor was added to a DLPS staff machine to allow for better workflow. Web & Emerging Technologies: Haiwang showed a faculty and staff page he had newly designed in an effort to streamline and facilitate searching for library faculty. After discussions, it was decided that the "faculty and staff page" will link to the default faculty and staff page and the department units page will be streamlined so that it has the Dean's Office and the three departments only, with each department having a link to its respective faculty listing. Department Reports: Dean: Connie discussed the agenda for the Library Kick-off in August. She asked for suggestions for topics to be covered. DLPS: Brian reported that WKU Libraries celebrated National Library Week with a reception at the Glasgow Regional Center Library on Wednesday, April 16 at 3:00 pm. Connie Foster announced plans for the future renovation of the library which will begin in stages starting this summer. Prior to the reception DLPS held its April faculty meeting in the Glasgow Campus board room. -Tracing the Unexplored: Brazil’s Multicultural Society - WKU Libraries cosponsored two talks this week in this international series. Dr. Dawn Duke, a professor of Spanish and Portuguese and chair of Africana Studies at the University of Tennessee spoke about “Afro-descendent Cultural and Literary Studies in Brazil, while Professor Ana Cristina Conceicao Santos, from the University of Alagoas in Brazil, talked about the recent passage of Affirmative Action Laws in Brazil. The visiting speakers met for lunch with students including a representative from the libraries. -Karen Petrone, Professor and Chair of the History Department at the University of Kentucky in Lexington was the last speaker in the Far Away Places series on Thursday, April 17 at 7:00 pm at Barnes & Noble. She talked about her most recent work The Great War in Russian Memory published in 2011 by Indiana University Press. She answered questions about the recent actions of Russia in the Ukraine. -Best Reference 2013 - Brian will host his annual workshop on the best print, online and web resources of last year on Friday, May 2 at 10:00 am in Helm 5 with a reception to follow in Helm 201 at 11:00 a.m. DLTS: Deana reported that the first step has been completed to fill the vacant Bib Access Sr. Cataloging Assistant position. This will be an internal library search. -Laura DeLancey, Nelda Sims, Deana Groves, David Runner, and Eric Fisher participated in a conference call with ExLibris to learn about the differences between Primo Total Care and Primo Direct. -Crystal Bowling is revising the Library Student Assistant Orientation Power Point presentation. DLSC: Jack reported that thirty-six boxes of uncatalogued books and other materials were retrieved from DLTS and returned to the DLSC by Jack Montgomery, Nancy Richey, with assistance by John Sarkozi, Crystal Bowling and Amanda Drost. Thanks to Timothy Mullin and Mary Lynn Claycomb for the loan of the van. These materials are being unpacked and repositioned in the appropriate places in DLSC. -KLRC - Nancy Richey is working with Dr. John Hardin of the WKU History department on a project for the African American Museum-Bowling Green Area (AAM-BGA). -The SLC faculty met on Thursday to define and draft a memorandum of understanding regarding the collection. A working draft will be created from each member of the faculty’s assignment and review as a group in the coming weeks. -Nancy Richey and Jack have submitted a second captioned photograph to The Amplifier in the “Memories of Note” series. -Allison Day and Jack will be going this week to secure the locally available products needed for the summer 2014 mold-cleaning project. -Nancy Richey, Allison Day, and April McCauley were on SAM100.7 with Tony Rose this morning to promote the upcoming Preservation Week workshop that will be on Monday, April 28 at 5:00 pm in the Kentucky Building. -Manuscripts - Jonathan Jeffrey is serving for the next six weeks as Humanities Scholar for the Prime Time Family Literacy Program at the Goodnight Library in Franklin, Kentucky. -Timothy Mullin and Jonathan Jeffrey made a presentation titled “A Passion for Everything Shaker: The Early Collectors and Their Efforts” for the South Union Seminar on April 12. -Jonathan Jeffrey presented a guest lecture on “The Evolution of the Cemetery Park Movement” for Folk Studies 455. -Two major collections in Manuscripts & Folklife Archives have just been completely processed. The Lissauer Collection of over 3,000 items documents three generations of the Wood and Lissauer families, including WKU modern languages professor Elizabeth Woods, her sister Martha Woods Potter, and her niece Mildred Potter Lissauer. The Gospel Music Collection consists of 35 boxes of material collected by Lynwood Montell for his book Singing the Glory Down. Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 11:30 am.
