Mother of Unity Prayer
Virgin Mary,
our Mother of renewed
faith, hope and love,
instill in us your call to unity,
so that we may be one in heart with you
and the most Holy Trinity.
Show us your way to peace
and bring us to oneness in spirit and mind.
All for the glory of God we pray.
Amen.

Safety Reminders
Protecting the Skin
Overexposure to the sun can
cause skin damage. We remind
students regularly to take
precautions to protect their skin during recess
times. The following are some suggestions to
help protect the skin:
A reminder of the grade 3 and 6 EQAO
assessment. The grade 3 students will write
the test May 25th, 26th and 30th. The grade 6
students will write the test May 31st, June 1st
and 2nd. The results of these tests will be
received in the fall of 2016.
How to prepare your child for the test?
It is important that you take the time to talk to
your child and help reduce the anxiety related
to any type of testing situation. Please ensure
that your child has enough sleep, eats a
nutritious breakfast and is well hydrated. It is
important that if your child is in grade 3 or 6,
that they be in full attendance during the
assessment. We thank you for your
cooperation with this very important matter.
May Statutory Holiday
There will be no school for students on
Victoria Day, Monday, May 23rd
 Wear protective clothing to cover the
skin
 Wear a hat to protect both the eyes and
the skin
 When possible, stay out of direct
sunlight
 Wear sun block; the higher the
protection factor number, the greater the
protection.
Parents are encouraged to reinforce these strategies
with their children regularly.
On April 26, 2016 the Intermediate Girls and
Boys basketball teams played their final
tournament at St. Anthony School. Each team
member demonstrated great sportsmanship
and put a lot of effort into each game. Coaches
Ms. Campagna and Mr. De Santis were very
proud of our team members: Andre D, Rohan
G, Tyrell W, Dominic F, Samuel Y, Fabian R,
Jayce H, Caleb I, Chaunte N, Lindsay L, Ariel
D, Britany M, Deja B, Eunique W, Monique W,
and Mia D. A special thank you goes out to
Ms. Oriuwa for helping to coach the
teams. Way to go SMB!

Bee Green Eco Team
Dress Code
With the warmer weather approaching, we
request parents’ support and cooperation in
ensuring that students are appropriately
dressed for school. Students should dress in a
manner conducive to a positive educational
atmosphere in the school.
The month of April has been a busy one for the
Bee Green Eco Team. Earth Day was
recognized on Friday April 22 with
announcements educating the community
about the importance and relevance of this
day. The team organized a yard waste cleanup
for all classes in FDK to grade 6. All classes
participated and TWO full garbage bags of
wrappers, water bottles, and other waste were
cleaned up from our back playground! The
grade 7 and 8s helped tidy up the front
gardens by cleaning up debris and weeds in
preparation for fresh soil and mulch that will
soon be delivered to beautify our green space.
Our Project Nest boxes have finally arrived!
The Bee Green Eco team will be placing three
bird nest boxes around the school yard. They
will be responsible for monitoring the birds
that visit the boxes and decide to build a nest.
Stay tuned for the exciting results!
The Bee Green Eco team has also registered
SMB for the Active Campaign. Building on
our Walking Wednesday’s initiative already in
place, students will be encouraged to bike,
walk or roll to school over the month of
May. More details about this campaign will
follow in the coming weeks.
We ask that students not wear tank tops,
muscle shirts, halter tops, tube tops, spaghetti
straps (this is directed at junior & intermediate
students) and short skirts or shorts. T-shirts
with inappropriate or offensive language or
pictures are not permitted at school. Flip Flops
are not proper footwear for school as they pose
a safety hazard. Running shoes are best. We
thank both parents and students for
cooperating with our school’s dress code.
On April 19th, the SMB
dance team “Something
Bigger” performed their
dance at the Rose Theatre,
competing against many
other schools in the DPCDSB.
We are so proud of them for
all their hard work this year. Congratulations
to Mia G., Samantha M., Monique W., Nadia
V., Lindsay L., Katrina G., Jessica M., Isabelle
R., and Ysabelle A. for receiving a GOLD
score! Special thanks to coaches Ms. Zampieri
and Mdm. Howell. We would also like to
thank Mrs. Moore for all her help with the
costumes!
