A Prayer for April
Principal’s Message
We had an amazing March!
Our lovely “Stations of the
Cross” Presentation by our
Grade 5, 6 and 7 students
was wonderful - even if it
was AFTER Easter!!!
Thanks so much to our
teachers and support staff
who worked so hard on this
production.
It’s hard to believe that I am
embarking on my third year
at St. Joseph!! One of my
huge goals at St. Joseph is
beautification of our school
and grounds. All of this is
not achieved without the support of the Board, our Superintendent, our trustee as well as
all the parents and the staff!
Our own School Advisory
Council has raised money to
further our goals and the staff
has been so supportive of implementing and making this
happen for your children at St.
Joseph School.
new things!
I invite all parents to be
active participants in our
school. We all have a part
to play in making St. Joseph School the very best
it can be.
And finally, a very Happy
and Blessed Easter to
each and every family in
our school.
All staff agree that if we have
busy, active and happy children who enjoy coming to
school our school will be a posSincerely,
itive place to attend and learn

FDK CAFE
MOVING??
Mrs. Araujo and Ms. Dina’s class participated in a lovely
café day. Mrs. Belluomini’s class helped to take orders and
serve the Kindergartens while Mrs. Guerrizio turned her
Library Resource Center into a café!
The Kindergatens loved being served croissants with cucumbers and cupcakes and strawberries with whipped

Bon Appetit!!
If you are going to be
moving to another
school during the
summer, please let us know as
this information will assist us
in making class lists for the
next school year. Please notify
the school as soon as possible and Mrs. Carabetta will
prepare a transfer form to bring
to the new school.
Skating: St. Joseph went skating this winter at our next door neighbour Vic Johnson
Arena. The Primary Division went skating
with some of our Intermediate students.
Everyone had a great time. Thanks to Mrs.
Falcone for arranging this event for our
school!! Ant thanks to all the parents and
staff for making this a fun experience for
all!!!
St. Joseph School is now on Twitter!

Parents!!! Please ensure that when sending birthday treats they ARE NUT FREE. Many products may
contain traces of nut or nut by products. We have many food allergies in our school and the safest way
to ensure everyone can enjoy the treat is to make the birthday treat a non food item such as stickers,
pencils, erasers or dollar store items. Thank you for helping to make our school a safe place.
LATES...please be on time and ready to come to school at our start time of 8:45 a.m.
The yard is supervised at 8:30 a.m. and therefore you can drop children off at 8:30 a.m.
Persistently late students miss part of the day for organizing their work and personal space as
well as valuable time catching up and chatting with their friends.
Please make sure your children are on time to school each day.
Thanks!!
Eco Report
Battery Drive
During the month of April the Eco team will be collecting batteries for our Battery Drive. There will be a container in the
front lobby for used batteries that need to be recycled.
Marker Drive
We are excited to be participating in our first Marker Drive sponsored by Crayola.
Please send in any used or dried up markers of any brand to be recycled. There
will be a collection box in the front lobby during the month of April.
Aquatic Plants Program
The Eco Team is participating in the Toronto Region Conservation, Aquatic Plants
Program. This program is an important initiative that teaches students how wetlands are highly productive ecosystems that contribute to water quality and the
overall health of the watershed. In May, the Eco Team will be doing our part by
planting these plants in a local wetland.
Stream Of Dreams
During Catholic Education Week (May 2-5th), the entire school will be participating in the Stream of Dreams program. This program will teach our students about
their local water sources and how they can help take care of our water. Each student and staff will paint a fish to contribute to the mural. More details to follow.

Stations of the Cross Presentation
On Tuesday, March 29, Mrs. Gaskin and Mrs. Sajda’s classes presented a solemn and moving “Stations of the Cross” for
the entire school. Many parents and guardians were in attendance and many were moved to tears by the fantastic production. Congratulations to our students for practicing and working so hard to make the Stations seem real to us and to
give us the message of Jesus’ suffering and pain was to give all of us a wonderous gift of life everlasting.
Every student in each of the classes was involved in this very professional dramatization. Special thanks to Mme
Da Silva, Ms. Pelaccia and Mrs. Guerrizio for their help and expertise.

Virtue of the Month for April: Love
APRIL
~Love
This month we will celebrate the virtue of love.
God has given us many guidelines and examples of how to live our lives. He sent his Son Jesus to make sure that we
could see what life could be like.
Jesus made one lesson clear above all other lessons – the lesson to love. Love is not about us – it is about forgetting ourselves and looking out for the good of the other. That’s what Jesus did – he forgot about himself on purpose. He chose to
give up his life for the good of others – us!
Becoming a truly loving person is challenging. It takes prayer and concentration to get used to making little sacrifices for
the good of others. Making little sacrifices on purpose so that others will have a bit of food, a bit of shelter, a bit of peace,
a bit of quiet, a bit of fun, a bit of friendship.
Through prayer and concentration, we can get better at showing love to everyone we meet.
A Loving Person…
Wants the best for others
Is willing to make sacrifices for the good of others
Learns from the heroic lives of saints & holy people
Knows that we are all lovable
Prays for others
ON REFLECTION…What would happen if I chose to give away something I own to make someone else happy?
IMPORTANT
NOTICE!!!
Letters requesting your child’s placement for the 2016/2017 school year are
due to the office Friday, April 15, 2016.
Please limit comments to specific learning style and environment rather than
requests for specific teachers.
Class Lists for September
Class Lists for September
Staff of St. Joseph School will soon meet regarding
the organization of students into classes for September, 2016. If your children will attend St. Joseph
School next year and there are any learning needs
you feel need to be addressed when making up
classes please do so in writing to Mrs. Bacci by April
15, 2016. Letters that list a specific teacher or names
of other children with which you would like your
child placed will not be considered. Information
from many sources will be pooled to help us
make the best placement for all children. All
staff work very hard on these lists to balance
classes including learning styles, teaching
styles, gender, and a cross section of abilities.
Bear in mind as well, that as a small school and
primary class restrictions (limit 20 students) that
combined classes are a fact of life and children
will have this experience from time to time.
Primary Intramurals 2016!
We had a wonderful indoor soccer season. Thank you to all of the Grade 7 students who were the coaches

Ariya P, Luke A, Michael P, Nives S, Jonathan S, Jerry X, Emily K, Lucas R, Allyson S, Joseph M (coach),

Chess Club
This year our Chess Club met at Lunch Hours and worked hard at perfecting their game! Our
team was chosen and we played in the Family Tournament. Our teams were: Primary, Junior and
Intermediate. They played at Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Everyone did great and represented St.
Joseph well. All who participated proudly show off their participant ribbons.
Thanks to Mme. Zanier and Mrs. Sajda for coaching.
