Bless us in your service And help us to follow Jesus Christ Who is our savior and Lord For ever and ever AMEN. Admin’s Message November is a busy time at St. Joseph School. Our annual Chocolate Fundraiser was a huge success - we are still tallying our final counts but all of this helps with our fundraising efforts which are itemized later in our newsletter. Our Hallowe’en Dance was fantastic fun complete with a DJ. The costumes were imaginative and fun - see inside for pics! Our staff dressed as “StoryBook Characters” as our theme. We had everything from “Pink and Purplicious” to “The Cat in the Hat” Yours truly was “Pippi Longstocking” - I must be really old - it was shocking how many children had no idea who “Pippi” was!!! Our teachers are planning “An Evening With Santa” for December - save the date the evening of Wednesday, December 9th. Its going to be FUN!! St. Joseph EQAO scores will be published soon - look in the next newsletter for results. We celebrated “All Saints” day recently and November is a time to remember all that have passed away. If you would like us to pray for someone special we are happy to pray for them on announcements each day. Just send a note in with your child’s agenda and we will put them on the roster. Our Movie Nite was a fantastic community event. Everyone enjoyed Pizza and Chips while watching the “Minions Movie”. Such fun. Our Community Officer - Officer Bill has come to talk to our students about safety, community news, youth and the law and awareness of rules around social media. He also goes out to recess with our kids and they love practicing being a police officer. Progress Reports go home Tuesday, November 17th- so be on the look out! Finally, in November its always good to remember those who fought and continue to fight for our freedom in Canada. A reminder that our Remembrance Day Liturgy will take place Tuesday, November 11at 10:30 a.m. Please join us in the gym if you are able. Lastly, we have been experiencing some unseasonably warm weather but it wouldn’t be out of the question to see snow soon - so lets be prepared when it does! It is November after all. DP Board Cross Country Meet was held Monday, October 26 at Centennial Park in Mississauga. Anthony K. was the lone representation from St. Joseph Streetsville competing in the Grade 7 Boy’s race. Anthony came 62th out of 110 participants. A very respectful outing. Great weather - great day!! Congratulations Anthony. St. Joe’s is very proud of you! Flag Football Here are the members of the Boys Volleyball Team: Aydan M., Ben L., Noah L., Aiden R., Michael U., Dylan V., Michael O., Anthony K. Congratulations Boys. Thanks to Mlle Zanier for coaching! Mr. Thrasher, Mrs. Foster and Mr. Bernais are currently coaching our Intermediate, Co-Ed Flag Football Team. We are currently holding tryouts for the team. They will be competing thoughout the month of November with their eyes on making the MN Family Tournament then hopefully the Boards! We will participate in the MN tournament on Thursday, November 12th @ Loyola! Best of Luck team! Bundle up! Junior Jets Sports Club All students in Grades 4, 5 and 6 are invited to play in our “first fun” JUNIOR JETS SPORTS CLUB. Students will play a variety of sports throughout the year. Girls and Boys will be scheduled on alternate Wednesdays. It will be a fun experience for all of our Junior Students interested in joining us! Thanks to Mr. Murray and Mrs. Foster for coaching this unique approach to Junior Sports!!! Virtue of the Month: Conscience This month we will focus on the virtue of conscience. God gave us the ability to know the right and decent way to act and then to act that way. We trust that the common Spirit we share inspires us and guides us to make good decisions if we allow our conscience to be well-formed. Fundraising Efforts at St. Joseph We do appreciate all that our parents/guardians and especially our School Advisory Council do in our fundraising efforts. Many of you may be asking - What do they spend all the money on? Here is a comprehensive list of all of the items the money will go to buy: Team Jerseys, school beautification, participation in Streetsville events i.e.(Santa Claus Parade, Bread and Honey Festival and Remembrance Day etc), Graduation (SK and Grade 8), awards for students, prizes for competitions and fundraising, assemblies, visitors and presentations for our school, props for plays and presentations, outdoor playground equipment, school trip augmentation, Sacraments, Playground updates, Equipment for Kindergarten, Peace Garden, garden for our new Kindergarten classroom, busses for events and trips, taxi’s for extra curriucular participation, updating Tech equipment and adding to our technology grid (iPads, SMARTBoards), sporting events and academic competitions. Our goal at St. Joseph is that all the money from fundraising activities goes directly back to our students in some form or another. St. Joseph is a very special place and we offer a tremendous amount of extra curricular programs for students. These programs do require outside revenues to support them. We do appreciate the support of all of our fundraising efforts. Please know that the fundraising we do in some form or another directly enhances your child(ren)’s experience at our school. We are grateful for the support from our parents and guardians that allow our students to participate in so many events and enhance the life of our school. ECO-NEWS Starting in November, we will begin our monthly challenges. They include proper recycling, brining re-usable water bottles and cleaning our outdoor classroom. We are also beginning “Doing Our Part for the Environment” activities. The following is our weekly schedule! This month we say a very warm welcome to A. Sajda who is returning from her Parental Leave on Monday, November 2nd. We wish Mr. Sergautis well in his future endevours and thank him for a job well done in starting off the school year on the right foot. Primary students have been focusing on “Digital Citizenship” and what it means to be a good citizen when using technology. We are learning how to research our inquiry questions using the IPad’s. The students are really enjoying having another means of technology to com- plete assignments. The library is fully operational and students have been signing out books for both reading for pleasure and for their research. This past week, I had the pleasure of going book buying for our library and I came back with lots of new titles for every division to enjoy! Pina Guerrizio Teacher-Librarian Youth Faith Ambassadors’ Program: Under the leadership of Mme Da Silva, Mrs. Guerrizio and Mrs. Pelaccia we are happy to offer our intermediate students a Youth Faith Ambassadors’ Program. The purpose of this program is to encourage our students to continue to honour Jesus’ teachings through service to our school community. The role of the Youth Ambassadors for Christ is to: Where’s my phone booth? Become active Catholic Christians Develop in their own faith Contribute to our school community through service Demonstrate their belief in the word of God Become active witnesses to our faith Develop leadership roles in informing, modeling and promoting the virtues This year we are very fortunate to have so many students who have volunteered to be Ambassadors.
