Soil, Weathering, and Erosion Exam Study Guide
***This Exam covers a lot of vocabulary, so be sure to use some type of studying strategy
(note cards, quizzing, etc.) that will help you remember the terms***
Weathering:
 Be able to compare the 2 types of weathering.
 Be able to recognize and define various types of mechanical/chemical weathering from a
description or situation .
 Be able to describe the factors that affect the rate of weathering.
 Make sure to know all of the terms of your concept map.
 Read pgs. 246 – 251 from your Earth Science Book (red one) for reinforcement.
Soil:
 Be able to name and describe all the components of soil.
 Be able to describe the qualities of each of the three texture particles. (notes)
 Read 255-258 for reinforcement (Red Earth Science Book).
 Be able to name and describe the four soil horizons as well as the processes that occur in
each (handout – diagram & chart).
 Be able to describe the order in which the soil horizons form.
 Be able to describe the difference between forest and grassland soil.
 Be able to describe the difference between transported and residual soil.
 Define the various types of transported soil. (notes)
Erosion:
 Know the history of erosion (Notes)
 Be able to recognize types of erosion through descriptions. (notes and PowerPoint)
 Know the different types of mass erosion
 Make sure you know what the Dust Bowl is. Be able to describe what happened and why it
happened.
