Soil, Weathering, and Erosion Exam Study Guide ***This Exam covers a lot of vocabulary, so be sure to use some type of studying strategy (note cards, quizzing, etc.) that will help you remember the terms*** Weathering: Be able to compare the 2 types of weathering. Be able to recognize and define various types of mechanical/chemical weathering from a description or situation . Be able to describe the factors that affect the rate of weathering. Make sure to know all of the terms of your concept map. Read pgs. 246 – 251 from your Earth Science Book (red one) for reinforcement. Soil: Be able to name and describe all the components of soil. Be able to describe the qualities of each of the three texture particles. (notes) Read 255-258 for reinforcement (Red Earth Science Book). Be able to name and describe the four soil horizons as well as the processes that occur in each (handout – diagram & chart). Be able to describe the order in which the soil horizons form. Be able to describe the difference between forest and grassland soil. Be able to describe the difference between transported and residual soil. Define the various types of transported soil.
