St. Bernard of Clairvaux School Catholic Education Week Catholic Education: Opening Doors of Mercy “Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy,” Matthew 5:7 Catholic schools are Catholic communities. Catholic schools are faith communities. We – Date of publication parents, students, teachers, administrative and support staff – walk and grow together in the faith which we received at our Baptism. And it is the ‘together’ that we grow. Our growth is primarily a relationship with God, who at our Baptism, called us by name. But the response of each of us to that growth is both personal and communal. We grow in our faith in the nurturing atmosphere of our Catholic community be that of our local parish, our home, or our Catholic school community. Saint Bernard of Clairvaux St. Bernard is known as the founder of the Cistercian Order because of his reform of monastic life at Citeaux and Clairvaux. For his advice and preaching, he has been called “the honey-tongued teacher”. Because of his role in government and Church matters he is known as “the man of the twelfth century”. He has been named a Doctor of the Church for his writings on the love of God, Scripture, the spiritual life and Mary. Catholic Education Week Prayer God of Love and compassion, help us to open the door of mercy in our school communities, in our families and in the world. Let mercy guide our living and bring us closer to the heart of the gospel. May we live as Jesus with mercy that welcomes, loves, forgives and calls us to live the gospel joyfully. Amen. We hope to see you there to enjoy our student’s hard work! O Lord Jesus Christ, open the eyes of my heart, that I may share Your story on the journey with others, and understand and do Your will. Hide not your commandments from me, but open my eyes to your faith filled stories, that I may perceive the wonders of Your teachings, walking with others. You are the enlightenment of those who lie in darkness, and from You comes every good deed and every blessed gift.
