Principal’s/Vice Principal’s Message
As we head into the final stretch of the school
year, we are pleased to highlight the many
wonderful activities taking place at our school.
We encourage you to continue to read our
newsletters as a family and to record specific
dates and activities that may pertain to you
and your children. Your support in utilizing this
most important communication tool is
appreciated.
On behalf of the staff of All Saints School, we
would like to extend sincere thanks to many of
you who were able to participate in our
distinctive Catholic Education Week activities
this year. Thank you for helping us to showcase our focus on building a community that is
grounded in faith.
We look forward to a safe and exciting finish to
a very successful school year and are grateful
for the never-ending generosity of our
dedicated staff and volunteers. We wish our
Grade 8 students well as they continue on
their journey as leaders in the school. We
would also like to wish them good luck as they
close the door on their elementary education
and open a new and exciting door as they
enter secondary school in the fall.
This month we celebrate Father’s Day. To all
of our fathers and those who do the work of
fathers in caring for children, may God bless
you for all you do. Happy Father’s Day on
June 20th.
We pray that all staff and students be blessed
with a safe and Holy summer. May summer be
a time of renewal for all of us, a time of
relaxation and joy; a time during which we
rejoice in God’s presence in recreation, nature
and in each other. God Bless!
Mr. Vecchiarino and Mrs. Boulanger
Virtue of the Month
This month we will celebrate the virtue of
‘Fairness’. Fairness, the belief that
everyone deserves an opportunity to
succeed, is not always about making
things exactly equal. Some people need a
bit more time, space, money, and support
to have an equal chance to succeed. And
they deserve that chance.
A fair person….
 Listens to all sides before forming
opinions
 Shows good sportsmanship
 Works to bring peaceful solutions to
problems
 Cheers on the successes of others
 Can balance their own rights and
responsibilities with those of others
The Virtues assembly will be held on
Tuesday, June 22 , 2010 at 1:15 p.m.
We also extend an invitation to all
friends and family to attend our Year
End Mass at S. Ignatius Loyola Parish
on June 22, 2010 at 10:30am. We hope
you are able to join us!
Father, Creator of all, thank You for summer!
Thank you for the warmth of the sun
and the increased daylight.
Thank You for the beauty I see all
around me and for the opportunity to
be outside and enjoy Your creation.
Thank You for the increased time I
have to be with my friends and family,
and for the more casual pace of the summer
season.
Draw me closer to You this summer.
Teach me how I can pray no matter
where I am or what I am doing.
Warm my soul with the awareness of
Your presence and light my path with
Your Word and Counsel.
As I enjoy Your creation, create in me
a pure heart and a hunger and a thirst for You.
Amen.
FROM THE OFFICE
.
Mrs. Crowley is Retiring!
The All Saints community would like to wish Mrs. Crowley all
the best in her retirement. Her love and commitment for the
well being of children will be irreplaceable. All Saints School
has been very fortunate to have such a highly dedicated and
professional person as part of our school community. Best
wishes, Mrs. Crowley, you will be missed!
Are you Ticked?
Direction of school support has long been an issue for Catholic
school boards in Ontario. The fact is that, unless the
municipality is notified, the school support designation, for
assessment purposes, automatically defaults to public school
support when an individual or family moves to a new address.
This may have an impact on students’ eligibility to attend
Catholic elementary schools, trustee representation on school
boards, and on government perception of support for Catholic
education.
We want to bring a greater awareness around this matter and
have created the Are You Ticked? campaign as the
communication vehicle for this awareness.
If you would like more information on school support designation
or would like us to help you check or change your school
support designation to the Catholic system, please call the
Board office at (905) 890-0708, ext. 24512. Thank you for
taking the time to verify your school support designation.
Volunteer Appreciation Tea
Appropriate School Attire
Please refer to the All Saints School Code of Conduct for
appropriate dress guidelines. Modesty is the most important
element of the guideline. All students are reminded that the
midriff and shoulders should be covered at all times. While we
want our students to be comfortable in the warmer weather, we
must also maintain a learning environment that reflects our
primary focus.
Flip-flops are not suitable attire for the schoolyard. Numerous
related injuries were tended to during the early part of the
school year. We would ask parents to monitor the footwear
selections of their children.
Please ensure that your child has protection from the sun by
using sunscreen and wearing a hat on sunny days.
Dehydration can be serious! Students should bring their All
Saints’ drink bottles to school; however they are not to be
taken outside in the yard.
Term Three Report Cards
All students (including grade 8’s) will be receiving their third
and final report card on Monday, June 28, 2010. We cannot
confirm your child’s teacher until Tuesday, September 8, 2009
(first day of school). The Response Form (page 3) of the Report
Card is due back to the school on Wednesday, June 30th, the
last day of instruction.
Our All Saints School community is extremely blessed to have
highly dedicated volunteers who contribute positively to the
education of our students on a consistent basis. An invitation is
extended to the All Saints’ community to help us celebrate and
thank our dedicated volunteers who have helped make the
difference in our school.
Please join us in the school library on June 22, 2010, at
3:30-6:00p.m. for the volunteer appreciation tea.
Babysitting will be provided.
Speak Up Room (Equipment Needed)
The Ministry of Education has provided our school with a ‘Speak
Up’ grant, to be used to develop a program that enhances
inclusivity and acceptance at All Saints School. We are in the
process of creating a ‘Speak Up’ room. The intent of the room is
to foster an environment of small group discussions, model
positive game play and provide a positive environment for
students who are experiencing social challenges in the
schoolyard. Thus far, we have supplied the room with Character
Development resources, board games, air hockey, ping pong
table, table soccer and a Wii system. If you have any board
games or recreation room equipment that you would like to
donate, please call the school office. Thank you!
Elementary Summer School (grades 7 & 8)
Sun Safety
The summer school staff at St. Luke School is looking forward
to the opportunity to help grade seven and eight students
prepare for September by honing their skill set in English and
Mathematics. The goal of this program is to help students
improve their learning skills and strategies.
The final day for all registrations to be sent to the Continuing
Education Department by All Saints staff is June 4th. If you
intend to register your grade seven or eight child and have not
done so, as of yet, please inform the office immediately.
We all like to work, play and relax outside on a sunny day.
The warm rays of the sun feel good on our skin. Too much
sun can be harmful, so be careful! The sun’s burning rays are
also called UV rays (ultraviolet). UV rays can cause:
Sunburn
Skin cancer
Eye damage
Premature skin aging
Safety Tips:
Plan to be outside in the early morning or late afternoon.
Stay out of the hot sun between 11am and 4 pm.
Wear sunglasses that provide UVA and UVB protection.
Use a sunscreen lotion or cream that is SPF 15 (sun
protection factor) or more. Use a sunscreen that says “broadspectrum”. It will screen out most of the UVA and UVB rays.
Put sunscreen on your skin 20 minutes before you go out and
reapply 20 minutes
after beingACHIEVEMENTS
out in the sun to ensure even
STUDENT
application of the product and better protection. Don’t forget
your lips, ears and nose. These parts of your body burn
easily. Sunscreen gets washed off by water and sweat. So
put more sunscreen on after you go swimming or if you are
sweating
EQAO Update
The grade 3 and 6 EQAO assessments measure how well
students have met the expectations in the Ontario Curriculum
Grades 1-8.
At All Saints School, the grade 3 students will write the EQAO
assessments of Reading, Writing and Mathematics on June
1st , 3rd, and 9th. The grade 6 students will write on June 2nd,
8th, and 10th . Please keep this important time frame in mind
when you are planning family trips or appointments. It is
important that all grade 3 and 6 students be in attendance for
the assessments.
Students will be required to complete three test booklets: one
mathematics booklet, one reading booklet and one writing
booklet. The types of questions in the booklets will be familiar
to your child as they are based on the work your child has
been completing throughout the year. Sample questions can
be viewed on the EQAO website at www.eqao.com.
We ask that you make every effort to avoid holidays during
these days and to try to make sure your children are in
attendance each day during the assessment. In advance, we
appreciate your efforts in scheduling appointments around this
block of time. The EQAO assessment results help us to
continue to improve upon the quality of Catholic education
offered to your children.
It is also important not to stress the student unnecessarily
about the EQAO assessments. Please attempt to keep
routines intact as much as possible during the testing period
so that no undue stress is placed upon the students. You can
help prepare for the testing by talking to your child and helping
to reduce the anxiety related to any type of testing situation.
Ensure your child has enough sleep, eats a nutritious
breakfast and is well hydrated.
Bon Voyage!
The grade eight students at All Saints School will be
embarking on a trip to Quebec from June 15-18, 2010. We
wish the students and teachers who will be travelling a safe
and exciting time on their excursion.
Grade Eight Graduation
The grade eight graduation awards and diploma ceremony
will be held at St. Aloysius Gonzaga Secondary School on
Friday, June 25, 2010 at 7:00 p.m., followed by a reception.
The Grade eight luncheon and dance will also be held on
Friday, June 25, 2010, at the Othello Banquet Hall from
11:30a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Congratulations to all of the Grade eight graduates!
Class Placements for September 2010
Play Day
As classroom placements are still tentative for the 2010-2011
school year, information regarding classroom placements will
be conveyed on the first day of school, Tuesday, September
7, 2010. We are looking forward to seeing everyone back at
All Saints School refreshed and ready to begin a new year.
Hooray! All Saints School is planning a Play Day for
Wednesday, June 16, 2010. Students will enjoy participating in
numerous activities and games. Students will also be served a
free hot dog lunch on that day. Please inform your classroom
teacher if you do not wish your child to partake in the hot dog
lunch.
Thank you in advance to the School Council for donating their
time, effort and hot dog lunch.
Please keep in mind that in order for this day to be a success,
we require the time and effort of many parent volunteers.
Please let the school office know if you are able to volunteer on
Play Day. Your time would be greatly appreciated!
Immunization Records
As many of you are aware, it is very important to keep a record
of immunization for your child(ren). Remember, once your
child is registered for school, you must update your child's
immunization record with Peel Public Health each time he/she
is vaccinated. If your child(ren)’s immunization record is not
kept up to date a school suspension may be implemented.
Please take the time this summer to be sure that your
child(ren)’s immunization records are up to date for the next
school year.
The four ways to report your child(ren)’s immunization record
are:
 Online
 Mail
Peel Public Health Immunization Record
44 Peel Centre Dr.
Brampton, Ontario L6T 4B5
 Phone 905 799-7700 (Toll free: 1 888 919-7800)
Fax 905 789-0597
Are You Moving?
If you know your family is moving out of our All Saints’
boundary, we would like to know. Each year, a number of
families move out of the area and it assists us in our planning
purposes to know whether students will be attending our school
next year. Please inform the office at your earliest
convenience.
From the Library
Just a gentle reminder, that all library books are due back by
Friday, June 11, 2010. Although books are due back, primary
classes will continue to visit the library until the end of the
month.
Please keep in mind that June is ‘amnesty month’. Any
students (or parents ) who find any All Saints’ textbooks, library
books or school materials at home can bring them to the library
this month. No penalty and no questions asked. Thank you for
your support!
Lost and Found
Please take a moment to check for lost articles in our Lost and
Found box. Any items remaining after June 25th will be
donated to a local charity.
Thank you………
It is often said that “it takes a village to raise a child”, and as
such, the great people of this community have and will continue
to make All Saints School a great and successful Catholic
school community. No school year can be successful without
the cooperation, support and assistance of a number of people.
Our appreciation is extended to the following people who have
given tirelessly of their time and effort this year:
 The faculty of All Saints School for their dedication
and commitment to our students
 Msgr. Shiels and Father Joe and their pastoral team
for their support throughout the year
 Our Catholic School Trustee, Vice Chair Sharon

 The All Saints Catholic School Council and the many
volunteers for their continued support
 The parents and families of our students for their
continued support and cooperation
 Mrs. Caves who keeps our school office running
efficiently throughout the year
 Our custodial staff who keep the school clean and
safe
 Our students who work diligently every day
Epi-Pen and Medication Pick-up
We ask parents to pick up their child’s Epi-pen or medication
on the last day of school, June 30, 2010. Any medication left in
the office at 3:15 p.m. on the last day, will be sent home with
the student.

All Saints Fall Fun Fair 2010
Please mark your calendar for Saturday, September
25th, as the date for our 4th Annual Fall Fun Fair.
Our volunteer committee is already hard at work
planning the event. If you would like to join us,
please contact the Fair Chair, Eva Lehman at
evalehman@rogers.com.
The Fun Fair is a great
event with
A community
CHI EVEMENT
games, inflatable play structures, BBQ, raffles, a
silent auction, as well as being one of our major
fundraising events. The success of the fundraising
side of the fair is due largely to the generous
donations from local businesses. If you are able to
secure a donation for our silent auction through your
company or the businesses you patronize, please
contact Susan Baird at susancurls@hotmail.com.
Flyers outlining classroom basket themes will be
sent home later this month.
Share Life Garage Sale
The 2nd annual garage sale was held Saturday, May
29th. The beautiful weather helped make the day a
success. Thanks to all who donated items to the
ShareLife table and the 9 table vendors who
participated. We raised $265.00 for the ShareLife
campaign. A special thank you to Suzanne
Rutherford and Christine Derks for organizing the
event.
From Your Catholic School Trustee: Sharon Hobin
It is hard to believe that our schools will be closing for the summer very soon.
There have been so many activities and certainly it as been a very busy time
at the school board.
As your trustee it is always a pleasure for me to be able to share good news
with you. The board, after many conversations has approved new walking
distances for those students who take the buses. These new distances will
come into effect in September. The revisions are as follows:
THAT BOARD POLICY 7.10, ITEM #2 BE AMENDED TO REFLECT THE
FOLLOWING REVISIONS TO DISTANCE ELIGIBILITY:
•
GRADE 1 STUDENT ELIGIBILITY BE REVISED FROM 1.6 KILOMETERS TO
1.0 KILOMETERS;
•
GRADES 2 – 4 ELIGIBILITY BE 1.6 KILOMETERS;
•
GRADES 5 – 8 ELIBIBILITY BE 2.0 KILOMETERS;
•
GRADE 7 & 8 STUDENT ELIGIBILITY BE REVISED FROM 3.2 KILOMETERS
TO 2.0 KILOMETERS;
WITH THE UNDERSTANDING FUNDING WILL BE PROVIDED THROUGH
EFFICIENCIES. THERE IS NO CHANGE TO KINDERGARTEN AT 1.0.
The funding is being provided through the efficiencies we have made in
transportation. As you know, we must work with the bussing consortium which
is called STOPR. But the board does continue to review policies.
Catholic Education Week was a huge success. Each class took part in
Catholic Education Week by inviting parents and the community into the
school. There were so many activities during Education Week and I hope that
you were able to visit the school for one of the events. I was able to attend the
Talent Show and was so impressed with the talent and with the turn out from
parents and friends. None of these activities happen without volunteers from
teachers and parents. All Saints continues this long tradition of community
support. When students are engaged in extracurricular sports, arts and clubs
they want to be in school and learning is enhanced. We are blessed to have
our Catholic schools. Do not rest on your laurels. Make sure that your local
MPP knows that you expect this government to support Catholic Education
long and into the future.
I sincerely thank your Catholic School Council and all volunteers for their hard
work and dedication to the school community. We encourage you to attend the
school council meetings. I have attended meetings and events and have
always enjoyed and been impressed with the level of activity of this council.
We are so blessed to have Monsignor Shiels and Father Gorman who support
All Saints. Our priests are so busy but they always find the time to come to
help and celebrate with us.
Thank you to the All Saints teachers, custodians and support staff. A big
thanks to Mrs. Caves and all the staff. I know how hard you work. Special
thanks to Superintendent Cathy Saytar. I appreciate her support and
dedication to the school and to me. Finally, thank you again to Mr.Vecchiarino
and to Mrs. Boulanger for your tireless dedication to All Saints School. Strong
leadership is so valuable to a school. The All Saints community has a long
tradition of helping others. With these community efforts and extracurricular
activities both in sports and the arts, your school is a great place to be. The
municipal election is October 25th. Make sure to vote. If you do not vote you do
not have a voice. You may vote for Mayor, Councilor and Catholic Trustee.
And make sure that your tax assessment is ticked “separate school
supporter”. When you move, it automatically defaults to the public board. This
is crucial to us.
As ever, do not hesitate to contact me. I wish you a safe and happy summer.
May God bless you and your family and may He always hold you in the palm
of His hand.
