Shared Priorities:

Outcomes:

Creating Catholic Conditions for Well-Being, Learning and Leading

We will provide a safe learning environment that encourages risk-taking needed for relevant learning, where the voice of each learner is valued and heard within a supportive community.

Outcome Progress Comments

5/1/2015: Student well-being is always at the forefront of what we do. Establishing a sense of community and safety in our school is of utmost importance. In working with staff to build that sense of community necessary to promote risk-taking, students are afforded numerous opportunities to take part and contribute to the life of the school. Most importantly is the community building that continues to flourish in our Vianney Virtues Houses. In the 2014-52015 Safe School Survey, students indicated 89.3% of our students feel accepted by students at school and that 68.54% felt that other students would help when in need.

Shared Priorities:

Outcomes:

Building Collaborative Practices Through Inquiry

We will cultivate a co-learning stance within an inquiry based approach to learning in order to deepen understanding for all learners (students, staff, and parents).

Outcome Progress Comments

5/1/2015: We continue to cultivate the seeds for inquiry based learning in the classroom. We have exposed staff through professional development, co-planning/co-teaching (with Special Assignment Teacher) and through staff sharing of their own inquiry based learnings witnessed in their classrooms during Professional Development meetings.

Shared Priorities:

Outcomes:

Enhancing Transitional Practices

We will support learners in seamless transition through care and attention to their needs and well-being in a variety of contexts.

Outcome Progress Comments

5/1/2015: Our relationship with St. Roch Secondary school continues to build. We are afforded many opportunities to work with various departments. Transition meetings, grade 8 visits and communication has been regular in order to consider the needs and well-being of our graduates. Transition meetings for our students with special needs help to plan, inform and highlight areas of need as we continue to prepare for transitions into the upcoming school year. Careful consideration is taken during class placement meetings to ensure that continuous care and positive relationships remain between parents and school. St. Roch Secondary school has supported us numerous times throughout the year. The Linc Crew provided basketball clinics, the senior volleyball team provided volleyball clinics, St. Roch's Children's Literature/Art classes shared their children's storybooks with our grade one students. Our grade 8 students participated in shadow day and our grade 5 and 6 students shared in their ECO fair. Additionally, we have supported parents and students entering the FDK program in the fall through our Welcome to Kindergarten night in partnership with PLASP and the Learning Partnership. Our special education team also holds transition meetings with parents of our diverse learners to ensure they have a successful transition into a new grade and new teacher including classroom and school walk-throughs, and meet the teacher, prior to the beginning of the school year. Teachers and administration also meet to promote students into the next year taking into consideration teaching and learning styles.

Shared Priorities:

Outcomes:

Knowing the Learner through Assessment

We will implement assessment strategies that will make thinking and learning visible in order to inform instruction that enables all students to learn.

Outcome Progress Comments

5/1/2015: Staff are continually encouraged to implement a diverse collection of assessment strategies (product, conversation, observation), challenging and allowing opportunities for critical thinking and application. We have utilized our first grade 3-6 EQAO surveys/scores to guide our focus in the 2014-2015 school year. The focus in mathematics aligns with our work in our family coplan/coteach opportunities (PODS) on developing our capacity in the 3-part lesson, and at our school professional development staff meetings that focused on inquiry and assessment in mathematics in particular. Shared Priorities:

Outcomes:

Responding through Effective Instruction

We will implement effective teaching practices that are responsive to the needs of all learners through the use of expected practices and through activating, developing and consolidating thinking.

Outcome Progress Comments

5/1/2015: Through continued principal/vice principal Learning Walks, professional development during staff meetings and through professional dialogue between and across divisions staff continue to implement best practices in their classrooms, to learn from each other and to be responsive to the needs of students in their classrooms. Teachers have embraced the new SES document and are attempting inquiry based learning with great success and enjoyment. With support of our Special Assignment Teacher, teachers had the opportunity to coplan inquiry lessons. Many teachers embraced this style of learning and used inquiry based learning in other subject areas. Teachers are beginning to be responsive by providing a variety of learning spaces and experiences that are responsive to 21st Century practices.
