Catholic School Learning Plan for Archbishop Romero Catholic SS Annual Progress Report Shared Priorities: Creating Catholic Conditions for Well-Being, Learning and Leading Outcomes: 1. An increase in the proportion of students who have demonstrated improvement on the learning skill and work habit of initiative and the CGE of Initiative and Christian Leadership (CGE4c). Outcome Progress Comments 6/2/2015: At the beginning of this academic year the outcome focusing on improved student Initiative was expanded to include the Catholic Graduate Expectation of Christian Leadership. Additional data was compiled based on the level students achieved on the learning skill of initiative on their report cards from 2013-14. The results of this analysis confirmed the need for our effort in pursuing this outcome. Throughout this year each program has begun to reflect on the results of the data collected during the 2013-14 school year in order to further identify appropriate opportunities to promote collaboration and growth mindset within the day to day experiences of students within their program in order to increase student initiative and Christian Leadership. This was accomplished through the creation of a Faith Planner for each program attached to the Shared priorities outlined in the Catholic Board Learning Plan. The CSLT has developed a Professional Development Day template to provide the opportunity for the teachers within each program to work together to work towards achieving this outcome. The first such PD Session was completed for the Mississauga and Brampton Alternative Programs in May. All other programs will have the same opportunity in September 2015. Shared Priorities: Building Collaborative Practices Through Inquiry Outcomes: 2. An increase in the proportion of educators who intend to apply knowledge gained through professional learning opportunities, as demonstrated by CBLP Professional Learning feedback Outcome Progress Comments 6/2/2015: Staff are continuing to participate in professional development to support the Archbishop Romero Theory of Action. Staff are participating in program specific professional development workshops to better meet the diverse needs of Archbishop Romero students and teachers. Staff reviewed and reflected on past and present practices associated with pursuing the objectives within their programs. To promote success and school improvement, staff were presented with new opportunities to further develop a Growth Mindset through reflective practice, were introduced to a new numeracy initiative, participated in a team approach to transition planning, and were able to identify qualitative and quantitative examples of Growth Mindset and collaboration within their programs. Staff also continue to collaborate regularly with support and clinical staff during Team and Program meetings. The implementation of the Individual Pathway Planning (IPP) tool. Outcome Progress Comments 6/2/2015: Determining the best way to implement the Creating Pathways for Success required practices has been a key portion of the Professional Development opportunities offered to Program teachers throughout the year. Key time periods at the beginning and end of each semester have been established as the most appropriate times for students to review their Individual Pathway Plan, and each program is exploring ways in which this work can be integrated into the current transition practices at Archbishop Romero. Efforts are also being made to establish a completed IPP as a component of the application process for attending Archbishop Romero CSS. Shared Priorities: Knowing the Learner through Assessment Outcomes: 4. An increase in the proportion of educators who increased their understanding of assessment for and as learning as a result of professional learning opportunities, as demonstrated by CBLP Professional Learning feedback. Outcome Progress Comments 6/2/2015: Through professional development opportunities, staff continue to be introduced to new numeracy resources available to Archbishop Romero staff and students. As identified through the collaborative inquiry process, the numeracy resources are intended to support the need for math concept guidelines and lessons at Archbishop Romero. Resources on Quadratics, Basic Math Skills, Trigonometry and Linear Relations provide student and teacher friendly, step-by-step directions with examples, practice questions, and additional resource section with links to on-line video lessons/tutorials. Numeracy resources provide staff with diagnostic and formative assessments to promote assessment for learning contributing to improvement in student achievement. Shared Priorities: Responding through Effective Instruction Outcomes: 5. An increase in the proportion of educators who intend to apply knowledge gained through professional learning opportunities, as demonstrated by CBLP Professional Learning feedback. Outcome Progress Comments 6/2/2015: We continue to present a variety of professional resources to develop a Growth Mindset perspective in teachers, support staff and students. Professional documents and strategies such as the use of reflective practice, modelling and creating space for new ideas are shared to allow staff to better assist all Archbishop Romero learners in developing a Growth Mindset. Staff are provided with access to resources on success criteria, coconstructing success criteria, use of descriptive feedback, use of exit tickets, and student friendly numeracy guides to help increase the Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations of initiative and Christian leadership and support the well-being of all Archbishop Romero students.
