Catholic School Learning Plan for St. Rita Elementary School
Annual Progress Report
Shared Priorities:
Creating Catholic Conditions for Well-Being, Learning and Leading
Outcomes:
1.0 By the end of 2016, there will be an increase in the proportion of students indicating
that they feel accepted by students in the school, as demonstrated by the CCCC School
Climate Survey results.
Outcome Progress Comments
5/25/2015: Through the analysis of the recent St. Rita safe school survey, results indicate that there is an increase
of students who feel safe at school and a decline in those who feel bullied. Students and staff will continue to work
together to further reduce the incidence of bullying while nurturing an environment that is safe, caring and
inclusive (WITS program). As in the past, students will be provided opportunities to learn more about and
experience social justice, service and stewardship of the earth. We are always enhancing our faith formation as a
Catholic community and providing our students with the support, modeling and direction toward the fulfillment of
the Ontario Catholic School Graduate expectations.
Shared Priorities:
Building Collaborative Practices Through Inquiry
Outcomes:
2.0 By the end of 2016, there will be an increase in the proportion of students who have
demonstrated improvement on the learning skill and work habit of self-regulation.
Outcome Progress Comments
5/24/2015: The St. Rita School provides a learning environment that supports the diversity of learners, thereby
leading students to take greater risks, showing a willingness to try new tasks and share learning with others. Critical
thinking, problem solving, communication and collaboration will be further emphasized. Teachers and students are
the co-creators of the learning environment of the classroom and school. A continued focus on this and with the
use of technology and 21st century learning strategies will further impact students' overall educational experience
and development of learning skills.
Shared Priorities:
Enhancing Transitional Practices
Outcomes:
3.0 By the end of 2016, there will be an increase in the proportion of Grade 8 students who
are prepared for Secondary School transition through a variety of contexts and active
engagement.
Outcome Progress Comments
5/25/2015: An open and ongoing communication system has been established between St. Rita and the feeder
Secondary Schools which will continue to be a major focus for transitions. Successful communication and
collaboration in planning early intervention to support students at risk upon transfer to Secondary school
continues to be implemented. Student learning profiles and patterns in student data were shared to support
successful transitions for all students. Further collaboration with Secondary schools will continue to be explored to
provide students and parents with information about all pathway destinations. Activities such as secondary school
visits and classroom presentations will support students in the design of their secondary program based upon their
interests, strengths and aspirations. The use of "My Blueprint" in grade 7 & 8 is used as a valuable tool to support
students and parents in future course selections and career planning.

Annual Progress Report
Shared Priorities:
Knowing the Learner through Assessment
Outcomes:
4.0 By the end of 2016, there will be an increase in the proportion of students able to
articulate strategies supporting their learning as demonstrated by perceptual data results.
Outcome Progress Comments
5/25/2015: Self-assessment skills are continuously being taught and modeled within the classroom. Students will
continue to use a range of self-assessment tools that will effectively support their learning (e.g. anchor charts, goal
setting, success criteria, rubrics, etc.). In the classroom, rich performance tasks are collaboratively created which
helps to inform the teaching/learning process. Teachers and students are actively involved in the use of
assessments "as" and "for" learning which are based on established learning goals and success criteria. Through
the co-teaching and co-learning model 21st century strategies will be further enriched within the learning
environment.
Shared Priorities:
Responding through Effective Instruction
Outcomes:
5.0 By the end of 2016, there will be an increase in the proportion of students improving
their EQAO achievement level between assessment years.
Outcome Progress Comments
5/25/2015: Through our collaborative school inquiry which focused on the effective use of math manipulatives and
the use of the four levels of the achievement chart to inform instruction, teachers have participated in learning
new teaching strategies whereby knowledge and effective instructional practices were shared. A range and variety
of professional resources and manipulatives in math continued to be purchased and the use of the Special
Assignment Teacher as a human resource allowed teachers and students to practice their new learning. Through
the School Improvement Team's input, a plan to further focus on growth in student achievement was
communicated to the School Council to elicit further support.
