5 DAY POLITICAL AND HISTORY TOUR TO WASHINGTON, DC

NOVEMBER 5 – 9, 2016

Preliminary Itinerary – March 1, 2016

Note: It is the responsibility of all participants to be in possession of the correct documentation to travel out of the country. Failure to do so will result in participants being denied entry/boarding and returned home at the expense of the individual. Canadian citizens 18 years of age or under who are travelling with a school or other organized group, under adult supervision and with parental/guardian consent may present proof of citizenship alone, such as an original or copy of birth certificate, or a Canadian citizenship card. Canadian Citizens 19 and over require a valid passport (the Canadian Government recommends that passports are valid at least for the duration of your travel). Groups are advised to obtain notarized letters of consent for persons under 18 years of age. Non-

Canadians must check entry and transit requirements. Please notify the group leader at time of booking if you will be traveling with a passport from another country so we can check requirements and advise you accordingly.

Day 1 – Sunday November 6

- meet your Ellison Tours Tour Manager and 1-56 passenger motor coach at Philip Pocock Secondary

School for loading of luggage and boarding of passengers

- depart Mississauga, ON for Gettysburg, PA (drive time: 7 hours), additional time has been allowed for border crossing and meals

- stops for breaks or meals will be made at the discretion of the coach driver and group leader

Please note: a st op will be made at the discretion of the coach company for a driver switch to accommodate strict driving reg ulations

arrive at the Hampton Inn Gettysburg (or similar as G Motor Inn ) and check-in for 1-night accommodation with time to take your luggage to your rooms

board your coach and transfer into Gettysburg with time to explore the area in chaperoned groups and purchase dinner on your own. ( Daubin House)

board coach and transfer to the Ghosts of Gettysburg Walking Tours Headquarters at 271

Baltimore St. to meet your tour guide

enjoy a guided "Ghosts of Gettysburg" tour - visit the County Courthouse that witnessed the battle and was filled to over-flowing with wounded soldiers…and now holds visitors from another world.

See the church where so many amputations occurred they had to drill holes in the floor to let the blood run out and where a spectral undertaker continues to walk to the nearby cemetery…removed decades ago

meet your coach at a predetermined location and board for a transfer to your hotel

arrive at your hotel and retire to your rooms for the remainder of the evening

Day 2 – Monday November 7 B

breakfast included at the hotel followed by check out

load your coach and transfer to the Gettysburg Visitor’s Center

arrive at the Center where the group will first view, a short film, “A New Birth of Freedom” narrated by Morgan Freeman

following the film, the group will be directed into the Light and Sound Show in the Cyclorama as well as have time to visit the Museum of the American Civil War

Day 2 – continued

following the visit at the visitor’s center, the group will enjoy a 2 hour guided Battlefield Tour of the

Gettysburg National Military Park , with over 1,000 monuments and cannons along over 40 miles of scenic roads; a battlefield shrine to the Union and Confederate soldiers who fought here

the Battle of Gettysburg was the largest civil war battle fought in the Western Hemisphere and with over 51,000 soldiers killed, wounded or captured - it was also the bloodiest battle of the Civil War

board your coach and depart for an area to purchase lunch and to explore

meet your coach at a predetermined location and board for a transfer Mount Vernon (drive time: 1

arrive at the Home of America’s first President, George Washington . Visitors can see 20 structures and 50 acres of gardens as they existed in 1799. The estate also includes a museum, the tombs of

at the conclusion of your tour meet your coach and transfer to Washington, DC

a stop will be made to sightsee and purchase on your own in historic Georgetown

arrival at the Kennedy Centre theatre where your group leader will pick up the tickets and you will locate your seats

Please note: your driver will now depart your group for the evening to comply with strict driving regulations. A local coach has been arranged for your return to the hotel. Baggage handling will be arranged for your luggage

Shear Madness - takes place in a Georgetown hairstyling salon where the comings and goings of the flamboyant salon proprietor, his streetwise assistant, and the zany customers in the shop lead up to a madcap murder reminiscent of the Marx Brothers

show ends, meet your locally chartered motor coach and transfer to the Hilton Garden Inn Tyson’s

Corner (or similar)

arrive to check in for 3 nights’ accommodation; retire to your rooms for the evening

Day 3 – Tuesday November 8 Election Day

following breakfast, board your coach and transfer to Arlington National Cemetery

arrive at the Arlington National Cemetery and check in for your visit and tram ride

trams fill up on a first come, first served basis – the first bus departs at 8:30am and then every 20 to

30 minutes after, making stops at the Kennedy Grave sites, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers and the Arlington House

this shrine occupies approximately 612 acres on the high hills overlooking the capital from the west side of the Memorial Bridge. It honors many national heroes and more than 260,000 war dead, veterans, and dependents

The Tomb of the Unknowns, contain’s the unidentified remains of service members from both world wars, the Korean War, and, until 1997, the Vietnam War. In 1997, the remains of the Unknown

Soldier from Vietnam were identified as those of Air Force 1st Lt. Michael Blassie, whose A-37 was shot down in South Vietnam in 1962

- today is left open for Election Day activities (details TBA) - purchase lunch on your own today -

Day 4 Wednesday November 9 B

After breakfast we travel to the White House post election activities (TBP)

walk as a group to the Smithsonian Information Center (distance: 750m; 9 mins) where you will have time to explore in chaperoned groups and purchase lunch on your own

visit the Smithsonian Information Center , the first building known as the Castle, where you will begin your exploration! The centre is the focal point for information about all of the Institutions.

Volunteer Information Specialists are available to answer questions and provide directions

Day 4 - continued - Air & Space Museum: maintains the largest collection of historic air and spacecraft in the world

- also a vital center for research into the history, science, and technology of aviation and space flight, as well as planetary science and terrestrial geology and geophysics

- Museum of American History: The Museum collects and preserves more than 3 million artifacts. There you will find everything from the original Star-Spangled Banner and Abraham Lincoln’s top hat to Dizzy

Gillespie’s angled trumpet and Dorothy’s ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz. The collections form a vast and fascinating mosaic of American life

- National Zoological Park: The National Zoo is a beautiful urban park offering family fun and excitement, stimulating education programs, and a peaceful place to enjoy nature. There is something new to discover on every visit

- National Museum of Natural History: The Museum is dedicated to inspiring curiosity, discovery, and learning about the natural world through its unparalleled research, collections, exhibitions, and education outreach programs - meet as a group at a predetermined location and board your coach to transfer to your dinner location - group dinner (TBA) - board your coach to meet your guide and begin your 2-hour

Illuminated Tour of Washington

- The illuminated tour provides a unique perspective to visitors as they witness DC by night. When the museums and other attractions close for the evening, a tour guide can show your group the memorials in their splendor. Day 5 Wednesday November 10 B

Monuments and Memorials Walking Tour (please dress weather appropriately and remember your camera!) - on today’s tour get an in-depth look at Washington! Sights include: the US Capitol Building,

Washington Monument, the White House,

Lincoln Memorial, Korean War Memorial, and more!
