Our Lady of Good Voyage
Learning Plan
Our Lady of Good Voyage Catholic School, located at 5850 River Grove Ave., Mississauga, opened in September, 1989 and was blessed on April 29, 1990.
The school population of 193 students reflects the diversity of central Mississauga.
Our Lady of Good Voyage is named for our common Catholic Faith. The school’s Motto and Mission Statement are linked to the many opportunities in social
justice initiatives that are offered to our students, staff and families. These include food and clothing collections, Angel on the Tree Christmas gift
collection, Christmas Hamper program for needy families in the parish, and participation in the ShareLife Campaign.
The Youth Faith Ambassadors model faith and leadership through various activities that promote an understanding of the Gospels, and through special
events to support local and international Catholic Charities.
Our students come to us with a variety of strengths and needs, with their Catholic faith as our common bond. Our prayer life, liturgical celebrations, Virtue
assemblies, the Sacraments, and our faith and values form the foundation of our school program. The curriculum is broad, balanced, and relevant to the
needs and aspirations of all our students. A wide range of subjects and learning experiences are offered to develop the skills, abilities and talents of individual
students. To ensure coherence and wholeness, subjects are taught within the context of The Ontario Curriculum, Gospel values and sound educational
practices.
In support of the Dufferin Peel Catholic District School Board Improvement Plan, Our Lady of Good Voyage Catholic School is further committed to:
Deepening the understanding, appreciation and practice of the Catholic Christian lifestyle, with Jesus as role model;
Developing students who are fully alive in Christ, not only in terms of knowledge and skills, but in terms of values, attitudes and actions;
As a diverse educational community responding to God's call, Our Lady of Good Voyage School fosters and nourishes an inclusive atmosphere rooted in
tradition and scripture while:
Being authentic witnesses to our Catholic Faith;
Being responsible stewards of God's grace in the world;
Respecting human dignity;
Modeling all learners after Jesus, as ministers of compassion and service.
Our Lady of Good Voyage has been an integral part of St. Joseph’s Parish since its inception. There is a strong partnership between the school, parish and
home. Our priests provide ongoing Spiritual Leadership through the Sacraments, school masses, and visits. Our school celebrates mass in the Church as
often as is possible.
