Dear Father,
You have given the Saints in Heaven eternal paradise and now they live in the fullness of Your glory. Because of their holy love for You, they also care about me and my family, my friends, my Church and my neighbours.
Thank You for the gift of their friendship and the witness of their holy lives. I ask our patron saints and every saint who has become dear to me to intercede for us. I ask them to help us journey safely on the narrow path that leads to Heaven. O Lord, give us their protection.
Grant us their assistance in overcoming temptation and gaining the fullness of life with you.
November is the month of Remembrance. For Catholics, this is a special time of year as we are reminded of the importance of the feasts of All Saints and All Souls Day. On
All Saints Day, we praise and thank God for what He has done for us through these holy people. On All Souls Day, we pray for all people who have died. We ask God to bring them to the joyful banquet of heaven to be with God and the saints forever.
On November 11 th , Canadians all across the country stop and honour those who have served, at home or overseas, in World War I, World War II, Korea and in all peace missions around the world. The World War I armistice was signed on the 11 th hour, of the 11 th day of the 11 th month.
As such, we stop and remember on the 11 th hour of
November 11 th . We will be honouring Remembrance Day by walking to the cenotaph (Grades 4 – 8 students) and by having a liturgy at 1:30 p.m. on November 11 th . All are welcome to join us at the liturgy.

Spook-a-thon Fundraiser/Pep-Rally
Thank you to everyone who took part in our Spooka-thon Pep Rally! A special thank you to Ms.
LaVieille’s class who led our exercise routine. Thank you to our student team, led by Paige and Cole vs. the staff team in our “Name That Tune” dance-off contest!
Our Spook-a-thon Fundraiser was a great success!
Students, staff and parents were moving and grooving. We are extremely grateful to all individuals who supported this event in a number of different ways. Throughout the afternoon on
October 29 th , members from our Catholic School
Council and other volunteers spent time putting up decorations in the gym to create a festive atmosphere. As a school, we would like to recognize that in many quiet ways, there are a great many people who contribute to the school and our activities. Thanks to all who contribute so much to enhance our school life.
Remembrance Day
On November 11 th at 1:30p.m., our Intermediate classes have prepared a Remembrance Day Liturgy for our school. If parents are walking with our classes, we ask that a criminal reference check has been completed. A donation has been made on behalf of the students and staff to the Canadian
Legion.

Safe Schools
Now that we are a few months in to the school routine, we would ask all parents and guardians to respect our policy that students walk to their classrooms by themselves. Parents and guardians should not be walking their children to the classroom as it disrupts the activities that are currently in progress. We also ask that for the sake of student privacy, parents do not enter the classroom. If
parents/guardians wish to speak with the teacher, please do not hesitate to phone the school and either leave a message or make arrangements for an interview. We thank you for your understanding.

DAREarts
Once again, the Junior and Intermediate students have participated in the DAREarts Card Project.
DAREarts is a Canadian charity that focuses on providing an opportunity for young artists to make a difference in their world. This year’s focus was
Aboriginal children in Canada’s north, helping them to find courage and confidence to ignite change and give themselves a voice. On Thursday, October
22 nd , local artist Sharon Wadsworth-Smith worked with several of our junior classes to create their cars. The cards students created will be sold across
Canada with funds being used to promote this very worthwhile cause.
Christmas Charities
As we approach Advent and the Christmas season, we recognize that others may not be as fortunate as we are. At St. Benedict, we appreciate the generous nature of our community. As a school, we are offering 3 ways in which families may decide to give at Christmas time. Please note that there is no expectation to participate in any of our charitable drives. The following are the ways in which families can choose to participate, should they so desire:
Operation Christmas Child
We once again are participating in Operation
Christmas Child. This is an initiative sponsored by
Samaritan’s Purse to bring joy and hop to children in desperate situations worldwide through gift-filled shoeboxes. Small items (i.e. hygiene items, school supplies and small toys) can be brought in to help pack our shoeboxes by November 17 th .
Mitten Tree/Giving Tree – Beginning December 1st
Donations of mittens and hats for our mitten tree as well as gift cards (i.e. from a grocery store) will be collected for families in need.
Food Drive – Beginning December 1st
Food donations will go to the St. Vincent de Paul
Society to benefit those in the Orangeville area.
Thank you for your support!
Bus Cancellations Due to Weather
During the winter months, inclement weather and/or poor road conditions may cause the disruption of bus transportation and regular school operations. In these cases, parents/guardians should develop alternate care/transportation arrangements.
A decision to cancel bus transportation and/or to close schools is made by 6:00 a.m. Decisions are based on several factors including precipitation, air temperature and road conditions. A decision to cancel bus transportation may be system wide
(where all buses in Dufferin County and the Region of Peel are cancelled) or municipality specific
(where buses in one or more municipalities are cancelled).
If buses are cancelled in the morning, they will not operate in the afternoon. Therefore students transported to school by parents must require the same transportation home.
Notification
Parents/guardians, students and school staff are asked to monitor the following radio/television stations after 6:00a.m. to receive bus cancellation/school closure information.

Anaphylaxis Update
Sanofi-aventis Canada Inc., in consultation with
Health Canada, are recalling all Allerject epinephrine auto-injectors.
Health Canada Recall Notice: Allerject Please ensure your child's school receives a replacement autoinjector as soon as possible. The Dufferin-Peel
Catholic District School Board will follow Health
Canada's direction in using the recalled autoinjectors if required.
News from the School Board
The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Marianne
Mazzorato as Director Designate of Education and
Secretary to the Board effective November 16 th until
January 15 th , 2016 when she succeeds John B.
Kostoff, who will retire after 8 years as Director. The entire St. Benedict School community would like to thank Mr. Kostoff for his leadership in Catholic education. We would also like to congratulate Ms.
Mazzorato as the new Director.
Student Accident Insurance
The Board takes every precaution to provide a safe learning environment for students, but accidents can and do happen. Some families have private accident insurance which is able to respond to costs arising from injuries. However, many families do not.
Under the Education Act, Ontario School boards are empowered to: “provide by contract with an insurer under the Insurance Act, accident and life insurance for pupils, the parents or guardians.” The “Basic
Plan” coverage for school days only, can be purchased annually for $3.50 per child and includes a 10 year dental benefit feature. Family discounts are available. Please contact the school if you did not receive a brochure.
Virtue of the Month: Conscience
Let us now pray,
For the grace and strength to be people of conscience
People who know the good and decent way to act and then choose to act that way.
During the month of November we will focus on the virtue of conscience. God has given us the ability to know the right and decent way to act and then to act that way. We trust that the common Spirit we share inspires us and guides us to make good decisions if we allow our conscience to be well-formed. A person of conscience allows prayer and scripture to influence him/her.
A person of Conscience …
· Chooses to do the “right thing” and feels good about it
· Can see how his/her actions may hurt others
· Admits his/her wrong-doing and feels badly
· Says “sorry” and tries to make up for their mistakes
· Keeps their promises
