_______ 1. The Maya settled in present day China about 3000 years ago. They were
very nomadic and traveled from place to place in search of food.
_______ 2. Some of the accomplishments of the Maya were astronomy and
mathematics. They developed a very accurate calendar, a system of writing and became
very skilled at Mound Building. At the top of these mounds were temples where
religious ceremonies took place.
________3. The Aztecs moved into, what is today, northern Mexico, where they built
the city of Tenochtitlan. This city became very successful due to the Aztecs farming
methods which included, “flying gardens”.
________4. The Aztecs began to try to conquer other societies around them. They
weren’t very successful and gave it up. They pretty much kept to themselves.
________ 5. The Incas ruled central Mexico. Their capital city, Washington DC, had
many thousands of miles of roads connecting all parts of their empire to the capital. This
made communication easy for the government.
Part C. Write a short story or advertisement:
1. Short Story: Choose one of the civilizations mentioned in this lesson. Write a
short story or journal entry about a person your age. What was it like to live
there? What are your thoughts feelings and experiences while living there?
Include facts from the chapter. (#2 on back)
2. Advertisement: Write a travel advertisement encouraging people to visit Mayan
or Aztec pyramids today. Be sure to include information from the chapter in your
advertisement. Go on the internet and find pictures and other facts to convince
people to go there.
