Reading Workshop: Poetry
As we dove deeper into Poetry this week, the students learned that it is
important to read all the way through all of the stanzas in a poem in order to
understand the author’s message. They also learned to use other strategies to
gain meaning while reading poetry, such as visualizing and reading aloud.
Sometimes, deeper understanding can come from reading multiple poems in a
collection too!

Writing: Poetry
This week students learned to use descriptive language to express themselves in
their poetry. Word choice is very important when only writing a few powerful
lines! They wrote shape poems, acrostic poems, simile poems, and rhyming
poems to help create just the right message and mood for their readers.
Math: Three Digit Numbers
The students showed how much they learned on the Module 10 PostTest. They used their strategies to compose and decompose numbers,
add 3-digit numbers, and identify the attributes of polyhedrons. The
students then learned how to turn-around many of those same strategies
to begin subtracting from 3-digit numbers.
Science/Social Studies:
Plants and Animals
The students investigated animals and their traits this
week to answer the big question: How are animals alike
and different? Did you know that there are many groups of
animals that share similar traits?
