Photography Positions: Summer, Fall 2016; 10 hours/week The photography intern will work with the university’s Creative Services group to shoot, edit and organize photography for multiple USC publications. Skills: Interns in this area should have experience shooting digital images and extensive knowledge of editing software, preferably Photoshop. Deadline: April 16 Public Relations Positions: Summer, Fall 2016; 20 hours/week The public relations intern will work with the university’s Media Relations team to promote the university, its faculty and news to local and national media outlets. This intern might be asked to write stories (news and features) for the university website and to write press releases, assist in coordinating interviews and media event planning. Deadline: April 16 Student Editor Positions: Summer, Fall 2016; 20 hours/week The university’s writers’ group is looking for an outstanding student to fill a new position as a student editor for the university’s weekly e-mail news for students. The editor will be responsible for compiling, editing and writing a weekly publication for students. The student editor will track analytics to determine what content students want. The editor will also be responsible for writing at least one story per week for the university’s website. Stories will include other media, such as photography and video. Skills: Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, including good knowledge of AP style. A willingness to learn new skills and technology. A modicum of photography ability is preferred. Interns will be expected to brainstorm story ideas and complete stories in a timely, deadline-based work environment with minimal supervision. To apply: Submit a resume and writing samples. Deadline: April 16 Social Media Assistant Positions: Summer, Fall 2016; 10-20 hours/week Work with the Social Media Strategist and Content Strategist to engage online communities through regular posting on various platforms. Provide weekly editorial planning and review of analytics. Provide support in implementing thoughtful and innovative social media strategies. Complete benchmarking research, write case studies and report on results in documents that will be shared with senior-level management within the Office of Communications and Public Affairs. Support other communications teams through live-tweeting and other communications support. Minimum Skills: In-depth knowledge and strong demonstrable experience with Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Ability to plan editorial content on a weekly basis. Self- motivated, detailed-oriented and prepared to professionally interact with others on behalf of the university. Preferred Skills: Understanding of additional platforms such as Snapchat and Periscope. Basic skills in Photoshop and photography composition. Basic skills in video editing.
