DRAWING (2) - STAINED GLASS NAME:_______________________ LESSON FOCUS: This lesson focuses on creating a stained glass effect using white glue and chalk pastels on black paper. VOCABULARY: Contour drawing: Drawing in which only contour lines are used to represent the subject matter. Contour lines: Lines creating boundaries that separate one area from another. Contour lines define edges and surface ridges of objects and figures. Opaque: Quality of a material that does not let any light pass through. Opposite of transparent. Pastels: Pigments held together with gum and molded into sticks. Stained glass: Colored glass cut into pieces, arranged in a design, and joined with strips of lead. PROCEDURE: Choose a subject matter that can be easily defined using contour lines. Do several sketches. Enlarge your best idea onto good paper using pencil. Outline pencil lines with white glue and let dry overnight. Fill in areas with opaque layers of chalk pastels. Be sure to fill in the entire paper using bright colors and no black.
