Ninth Grade – Level-One Independent Reading Project Mr. Zervanos 1. For this major reading unit you will be reading independently. You may select a book from my (or the librarian’s, or another teacher’s) list of suggestions (to be written, by you, below) or you may read a book that you request and that I approve. You must consider “genre.” You must choose a book from a different genre for each independent reading project. Noted suggestions: 3. You must keep a self-selected reading Quarterly Progress Journal (divide the book, approximately, into four equal parts). You must also complete the Vocabulary Tracker—5 words per quarter. You must also complete the Analysis questions. 4. You must complete an independent Creative (and/or Critical) Writing Project. You must do a different kind of writing project for each book. Suggestions: missing chapter, alternate ending, poem(s), rap(s), song, personal narratives, play/scene(s), video/movie, movie scripts, stories, critical essay, movie-book comparison essay… (Depending on the nature of the writing…typed, at least two pages.) 5. There may be some class time to read the book and to do related work, but this is primarily an independent project, to be completed in about a month, meeting quarterly deadlines, as noted above. Due dates will be provided. Due dates:
