Poem Assignment 2
Due:__________________________________ Option 1: Found poem Construct a poem comprised of words, phrases, quotes you’ve “found” elsewhere. The point is that the WORDS AND PHRASES have to come from something else and remain unaltered. Examples: ● A poem that consists ONLY of words from bulletin boards in teachers’ rooms ● A poem that consists ONLY of direct quotes of conversations you hear in the hallway ● A poem that consists ONLY of things your parents have said to you this week ● A poem that consists ONLY of statements on your social media newsfeed ● A poem that consists ONLY of pieces of headlines from a newspaper ● Other ideas… Rules ● You can add a word or two to connect them or change a verb ending if needed ● Words and phrases should be arranged in a way that reading them helps emphasize a certain point ● The title should hint at the source and impression you’re trying to give ● Add an explanatory paragraph in which you explain the sources of your poem, your arrangement choices, and the impression you were trying to create. Option 2: “Inspired by” poem Write a poem that is inspired by ● A personal life event ● Someone you know ● An observation you have made about your world ● A picture ● Another poem/song (as in, you’re inspired by the subject matter OR the form) Rules ● Include a creative title ● You MUST either have a specific meter and rhyme scheme OR incorporate at least four pieces of figurative language. (Feel free to do both!) ● You have to write a paragraph explaining who/what inspired your poem, the intended message of your poem, and different poetic elements you tried to incorporate. If it was a picture/poem/song, include it with the poem. Due:_____________________________________
