Job Summary:
The primary purpose of this position is to manage and grow the existing sales team and to lead the marketing and sales function
of Knife River. The Marketing/Sales Manager will research, identify and develop opportunities for expanding the sales of ready mix
concrete and aggregates within our market area. This seasoned and professional individual will establish marketing/sales
strategies to not only maintain but to build our customer base and strategic alliances. Identify new key accounts, maintain key
customer relationships, assign accounts to sales staff, and set pricing limits to maximize returns for Knife River. This position will
provide weekly, monthly and yearly market updates including backlog reports, develop sales/revenue budgets for all product lines
with supporting documentation, and work to develop a team approach to client relationships, interaction, and satisfaction.
Minimum Qualifications:
-6 to 10 years of marketing and sales experience in ready mix concrete, aggregates or other related construction material fields.
-Experience calling on and presenting proposals to Engineers, Architects, owners, contractors and government agencies.
-Strong verbal and written communication skills.
-Ability to manage multiple priorities and deal with high pressure situations under tight deadlines.
-Proficient in the use of computer applications in Microsoft Office Suite.
-Professional, creative, highly self-motivated, with superior organizational skills and a strong aptitude for logistics, planning and
scheduling.
-Ability to win concessions without damaging relationships. Gains trust quickly.
Duties and/or Responsibilities:
-Develop and manage along with upper management the marketing and sales strategies for the division.
-Provide frequent as needed market analysis updates to upper management.
-Manage the sales team’s efforts on a daily basis to maximize sales volumes and achieve established budgets.
-Provide training, motivation and guidance to the members of the sales team.
-Create an organized methodology to identify larger project early on in the bid process to provide time to establish contact with the
important decision makers involved.
-Develop reporting requirements for the sales team to keep upper management in tune of our marketing and sales efforts including
notifying management of market trends and any changes to those trends.
-Identify potential market expansion opportunities and assist in developing a justification for any future capex requirements for such
identified opportunities.
-Assign customers to the individual sales professional.
-Represent the company at trade association meetings.
-Develop pricing strategies along with upper management to maximize returns.
-Review Project Specifications and prepare and review quotes and bids.
-Direct the sales team to achieve their established stated goals.
-Troubleshoot and resolve sales/service related customer complaints.
-Provide market information and updated back log reports.
-Provide weekly, monthly, yearly market updates.
-Maintain contact with key customer accounts.
-Review daily ticket edits and margin reports.
-Work along with Operations to assist them in providing acceptable levels of customer service.
-Must be willing to work flexible hours including weekends, evenings, or nights as necessary.
