Advanced Placement Language and Composition
Summer Readings, 2015
To prepare you for the rigorous close reading and challenging work you will encounter in
Advanced Placement Language and Composition, you will have three main tasks to complete
this summer:
1. To read the novel Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie;
2. To memorize a list of literary and rhetorical terms that will provide the foundation for
much of our work throughout the year;
3. To read and reflect upon a collection of essays that center on the craft and process of
writing; and
4. To record your thoughts about the readings in a specifically formatted electronic journal.
Please look for specific instructions about the journal requirements and the actual readings on
Ms. Lobitz’ or Ms. Quinzi’s websites, as well as the English Department site. We will post them
after finals have been completed for the current school year.
