COMMITTEE MEMBER JOB DESCRIPTION AND COMMITMENT FORM
Congratulations on considering or being considered for a position on an STFM committee!
A member of an STFM committee is nominated or appointed to this position based on demonstrated
involvement, expertise, and commitment to the Society. Prior to accepting a committee position, we ask
that you agree to meet the responsibilities associated with committee membership. Reappointments
are based on successfully contributing to the committee and meeting these commitments. These
commitments include a willingness to:
1. Prepare for and attend committee meetings in their entirety, review and comment on minutes
and reports and relevant materials, ask questions, follow through on assignments, and selfassess performance and contribution. STFM values your presence on the committee, and your
attendance and engagement is critical to the committee’s success.
2. Actively participate as a member of the STFM committee, demonstrating collaboration and
partnership skills.
3. Accept leadership for STFM subcommittee activities as needed and work closely with the STFM
staff on behalf of STFM objectives.
4. Become a representative and spokesperson for STFM. This could involve talking with current or
prospective members, academic administrators, legislators, or representing STFM at meetings
of other professional organizations.
5. Be familiar with the programs (education and awards), and products (journal, Resource Library)
sponsored and/or produced by STFM. Review and understand the STFM strategic plan.
6. Reach consensus and support committee decisions, which may differ from one’s personal
opinions.
7. Complete an annual evaluation of the committee chair.
8. Be a current donor to the STFM Foundation and a current dues-paying STFM member. The
amount of the donation is an individual decision.
9. Whenever possible, encourage family medicine educators to join STFM.
10. Accept feedback from the committee chair as an opportunity to improve performance and refine
leadership skills.
