Inglewood Home & School Meeting – December 10, 2015 Call to order: Margaret Ridge President: Margaret Ridge Theatre Horizons sign-up sheet for grades 2-5 went home in backpack this week. “Girls on the Run” for girls in grades 3-5 is being sponsored by Mrs. Czarnecki, Mrs. Wehr, Miss Sterling and Miss Taroff. It meets 2 days a week for 12 weeks, 4:00-5:30pm. The program follows a curriculum that addresses self-esteem and other values while incorporating running. The program culminates in 5k. Cost is $165, financial aid is available. Connie Brown informed us that the NPHS Key Club is always in need of volunteer hours. Give them two weeks’ notice. Advisor is Linda Law (lawlk@npenn.org). We are in the process of setting a date for school pictures for next year. It was commented that one of the photographers wasn’t that great – didn’t seem to interact well with the kids, off-center pics, etc. Juice Pouch Recycling has been taken over by Janet O’Donnell. She is happy to do it, but it’s a tedious (and often messy) process. Last year, it only raised $100. It was decided to discontinue the program. Christy will remove it from the fundraising page on the website. Vice President: Aimee Heavener No report. Recording Secretary: Christy Johannesson & Lisa Lupinacci November 12, 2015 minutes were submitted for approval. A correction was made regarding the basketball nets. Note that the poles were repainted, not the backboards. Motion to approve with correction by Kristen Kimball, second by Margaret Ridge, approved. Corresponding Secretary: Jillian Giza (not present) Received several thank you notes from teachers for the American Education Week breakfast. Treasurer: Carrie Skinfill (not present) Book fair – we keep 25%, waiting on the bill. Dining Out includes Merrymead Pie Sale. Flea Market includes Mommy Market & Vendor Fair. Kids Stuff bill is paid, haven’t received bonus check yet. Wawa – we had to buy more coupons following two large orders. Orchestra – need to pay for buses. Fall pictures will bring in about $1,900. Teacher Representative: Miss Reed Ideas for Home & School purchases: • Water cooler in teachers’ lounge – Only problem is that it doesn’t directly affect the students. • New laminator – Contrary to previous reports, we definitely need a new one. The lamination often peels off, and it’s very complicated to reload. • Walking path – Mr. Foresto loved the idea. It fits into the new Wellness Committee plans. • Backstop for baseball/kickball – Another idea from Mr. Foresto. Principal: Dr. Taylor (not present) Sidewalk to bus drop off area is being extended. There is no timeline yet. Special Events/Fundraisers Vendor Night: Karen Nevard (present) & Wendy Blanch (not present) We had an okay turnout, but it could have been much better. Made $305 from vendors, $160 from food. Had difficulty getting volunteers. Wednesday night probably isn’t the best choice. Maybe Saturday or Sunday or in conjunction with another event? Walton Farm had a combined event with kids’ activities, vendors, and holiday shop. Oak Park also had kids’ stuff at their vendor fair. How did they handle clearances? Karen, as a vendor, was not asked to submit clearances to WF. Vendors are interested in participating next year. Need to do more advertising – signs, community paper, etc. Was the date too early to attract holiday buyers? American Education Week Breakfast: Jillian Giza (not present) Thanks to everyone who contributed food and volunteered at the event! Merrymead Pie Sale: Margaret Ridge Very few orders. We made $100. Dining Out: Chris Schwar (not present) Made $300 from Everything Bagel. Grub Burger is next Tuesday. Michele Farrell is setting up the January date and will take over next year. Spirit Wear: Chris Schwar (not present) Looked into online apparel sales. They are too expensive. Will look into other options after the new year. Upcoming Events Blizzard Bingo: Wendy Weist (present) & Stacy Spizziri (not present) Have enough volunteers, but still need baked goods. Might be short on bingo markers, so will have paper squares as a backup. Holiday Shop: Connie Brown (not present) & Karen Nevard (present) Went to Cherrydale and bought a HUGE amount of items. Everything is on the stage. Connie and son are getting it organized and priced. Plan to save some for next year. To clarify shopping schedule, Miss Reed’s 1st grade class is shopping on Thursday, Mrs. Reed’s 2nd grade class is shopping on Wednesday. Variety Show: Kristen Kimball Shrek is this year’s theme. It coordinates with the Penndale musical and will help eliminate the need to “clean up” explicit lyrics. Information meetings were this week. There are 10 acts so far. Dress rehearsals will be Jan 12-14 at Inglewood. Jodie Biegert offered to choreograph a 6th grade act. Admissions are free, concessions will be sold during intermission. Continuing Committees Coordinating Council: Aimee Heavener (present) & David Mumford (not present) Neither rep attended November’s meeting. Jan 20 meeting will feature Ray Wilson on Safe Schools. Meetings are at 7pm at ESC and are open to everyone. See website for meeting schedule. School Board Representative: Duane Spencer See attached notes. Other Business Volunteer Issues: Christy Johannesson We seem to be having a problem getting enough volunteers for events, even for baked goods. Clearances have complicated things. We should also change the wording on the Homeroom Parent sheet to make it clear that you’re not committing to be “in charge” as a homeroom parent. It just means you’re willing to help out if needed. BrainPOP Cost: Carrie Skinfill (not present) The actual cost for this year came to more than the budgeted amount. Margaret Ridge motioned to increase the technology budget by $250, second by Aimee Heavener, passed. Good Will Committee: Wendy Blanch (not present) Will be making Valentines for Schwenkfeld Manor. Karen Nevard suggested recruiting more parent helpers to cut out hearts. Looking for ideas for Helping Hands Day – local non-profits. Aimee Heavener suggested Baby Bureau, which collects and distributes gently used clothing, etc. for ages 0-12 months. Last year, we supported Manna on Main Street, Boys & Girls Club, Police & Fire departments, and Stray Cat Blues. Next Meeting: February 11, 2016 at 7pm. No January meeting. Meeting Adjourned: Margaret Ridge Motion by Margaret Ridge, second by Karen Mondoro, approved.
