POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: Workforce Development Student Advisor CODE: CATEGORY: Professional GRADE: FLSA STATUS: A Exempt JOB SUMMARY: Provides academic, vocational, and personal guidance services to students enrolled in the Workforce Development programs. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Conducts structured interviews to insure students are qualified for services. Provides academic counseling to prospective and current students. Ensures compliance with sponsoring agency, if applicable. Assists with the documentation needed in the eligibility process by securing appropriate documents from other offices. YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 45% 2. Provides case management services to include student progress assessments, goal setting, academic counseling and guidance, crisis intervention providing off-campus referrals as required. Prepares and maintains written case documentation, student evaluations and/or assessments; compiles data/statistics, prepares and submits reports. Advises students of completion of educational requirements and assists in the planning of graduation ceremonies. 30% 3. Assists students with accessing various college services; including job placement, remediation, day care, job readiness, and other developmental support services. 10% 4. Provides input on departmental policies and procedures, as well as departmental resources. Completes the necessary documentation and reports, both hard copy and computerized. 10% 5. Maintains liaison with faculty, other departments, and programs to provide information, coordinate efforts and facilitate referrals. Participates in staff development activities and committees as appropriate and serves as an integral part of Workforce Development. 5% REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Director, Workforce Development SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None BUDGET RESPONSIBILITIES: None ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Associate’s Degree or Equivalent EXPERIENCE: Three (3) Years related. CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES: None SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Skills/Abilities: Ability to communicate effectively with a varied student population, internal departments, and external organizations; and strong interpersonal and organizational skills. 2. Equipment Used: Personal Computer and other equipment associated with a general office environment. 3. Software Used: A variety of word-processing, spreadsheet, and database software, e.g. MSWord, Excel and Access PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Duties require little physical effort in work with light (up to 10lbs), easy to handle materials. Duties performed causes light fatigue of eyes, fingers, or other faculties due to long periods of standing, sitting, or repetitive motion. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Alternative or combined skills in understanding, guidance, and/or influencing people are important in achieving job objectives, causing action, understanding others, or changing behavior; and, skills of persuasiveness or assertiveness, as well as sensitivity to the point of view of others. WORKING CONDITIONS: Job is performed in general office or comparable working area with many and frequent distractions such as noise, interruptions, or congested work areas with exposure to some disagreeable elements.
