POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: FLSA STATUS: Security Specialist Non-Exempt CATEGORY: GRADE: Classified D JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for district key control, district security alarm system control, district lost & found control, service/delivery permit control, dispatching and support services to students, faculty, staff and general public. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 20% 1. Monitor the security alarm system; verify and input employee identification card information, activation and deactivation into the system access authorization roster. Maintain logs of malfunctions of system and activation/deactivation of identification cards. 2. Issue building, office, cabinet and desk keys to employees; maintain manual records on key series and issuance/return of keys district wide; receives request for lock changes; coordinates with District’s Locksmith key orders, problems and repairs of doors and locks. set up and maintain files, order supplies and equipment. 25% 3. Act as point of contact for lost and found items in the district; maintain records of inventory not claimed for donation and/or destroyed. 15% 4. Provide clerical service for the department district-wide; prepare correspondence/memos; answer phone, schedule appointments and meeting. 10% 5. Issue service and delivery permits to vendors, contractors and college employees. Maintain records of permit. 10% 6. Provide informational and directional assistance to faculty, staff, students, visitors, vendors and handicapped individuals as needed. Issues temporary parking passes to students, staff, visitors, faculty and staff. 10% 7. Perform other duties as required or assigned by supervisor such as operate the district radio communication system, dispatch officers and security personnel to emergency and non-emergency situations requiring police assistance; handle inquiries from officers on stolen vehicles, vehicle registrations, requests for traffic and criminal warrant checks on individuals; prepare documentation for entry of stolen vehicle and property on NCIC/TCIC Information System through another agency’s TLETS system; monitor the building alarm security system district wide; monitor the video surveillance system for Valle Verde Campus; law enforcement agencies hiring new applicants; check field information cards. 10% Page 1 of 2 REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Lieutenant assigned to the Valle Verde Campus ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: One (1) year of college EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years experience. SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Skills/Abilities: Excellent oral communications skills; ability to operate radio communications system; familiar with software programs in data entry pertaining to intrusion and motion alarms, records and files. 2. Equipment Used: Personal Computer, fax, telephone, copier, and other equipment associated with an office environment. 3. Software Used: A variety of word-processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail, and presentation software. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Duties require little physical effort in work with light (up to 10lbs), easy to handle materials. Duties performed causes light fatigue of eyes, fingers, or other faculties due to long periods of standing, sitting, and/or repetitive motion. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Alternative or combined skills in understanding, counseling, and/or influencing people are important in achieving job objectives, causing action, understanding others, or changing behavior; and, skills of persuasiveness or assertiveness, as well as sensitivity to the point of view of others.
