POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: FLSA STATUS: Institutional Research Assistant Non-Exempt CATEGORY: GRADE: Classified C JOB SUMMARY: Provide support and assist with the coordination of activities related to Institutional Research and Strategic Planning, with a special emphasis on student evaluation of faculty projects. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Assists in development and analyses of research material to staff and clients in support of college planning, resource allocations and decisionmaking processes. YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 30% 2. Use specialized software and equipment to design instruments for data collection; assists with statistical analyses and interpretation of data. 25% 3. Assists in the design of instruments for data collection; assists in the conduct of feasibility studies and surveys. 20% 4. Provide technical guidance and assistance to Institutional Research & Strategic Planning staff for up-dated hardware and software; advise supervisor regarding procurement requirement and initiate purchases. 15% 5. Manage assigned equipment and software; ensure adequate materials are on hand, identify appropriate vendors and suppliers. 10% REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Reports to Director, Institutional Research & Strategic Planning. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Associate’s degree EXPERIENCE: Two years SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Skills/Abilities: Ability to plan effectively and work under strict deadlines; ability to perform under minimal supervision, be responsible and plan ahead for departmental purchases. 2. Equipment Used: Personal Computer, fax, telephone, copier, and other equipment associated with an office environment. Page 1 of 2 3. Software Used: A variety of word-processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail, and presentation software. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Duties require little physical effort in work with light (up to 10lbs), easy to handle materials. Duties performed causes light fatigue of eyes, fingers, or other faculties due to long periods of standing, sitting, and/or repetitive motion. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Courtesy, tact, and effectiveness in order to communicate with fellow workers, supervisors, and other members of the organization to request or transmit information, ask questions, get clarification, and exercise tact. WORKING CONDITIONS: Job is performed in general office or comparable working area with occasional distractions such as noise, interruptions, or congested work areas with exposure to some disagreeable elements.
