Clean Up & Inspection PowerPoint 2. Clean Up & Inspection PowerPoint Slides 3. Clean Up & Inspection PowerPoint Notes Materials Needed: Coupons from previous lesson. Personal safety equipment Equipment Needed: Wire brush Chipping hammer Power brush grinder Learner The student will participate in labs to clean-up coupons made from previous 3 lessons in order to prepare their work for visual inspection. Introduction Introduction (LSI Quadrant I): SAY: Today you will use the three different coupons you have made previously and 3 Copyright © Texas Education Agency, 2012. All rights reserved. prepare them for inspection. Outline Outline (LSI Quadrant II): This lesson has two main components: clean up and inspection. Students are requested to use material previously made and have it cleaned and ready for inspection for completion of three main lessons: mild-steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. In completing clean-up and inspection the student will demonstrate safe practices and how to complete the welding process. I. Clean-up A. Mild-steel coupon B. Stainless steel coupon C. Aluminum coupon Grinder will be used to prepare the base metal for completion. Student will be expected to explain or describe the welding clean-up and inspection process (looking for edges and surface anomalies, welding codes and standards, tack, completed welds, and guided bend tests). There will also be a safety inspection on all equipment used. Students will complete pipe welding coupons (material preparation) according to welding standards). II. Inspection A. Mild-steel coupon B. Stainless steel coupon C. Aluminum coupon Inspection includes test plate welding inspection, Including test codes, weld test coupon evaluation, evaluation of proper welding procedures and preparation of test plates. Visual inspection includes preparing the sample for testing against the appropriate standard, inspecting it for overlap, undercut, slag, and other problems, and identifying defects. Application Guided Practice (LSI Quadrant III): The teacher will demonstrate what to look for on each of the coupons for clean-up purposes. He/she will demonstrate how to use the tools to clean-up the welds to make them more presentable. Independent Practice (LSI Quadrant III): 4 Copyright © Texas Education Agency, 2012. Evaluation Informal Assessment (LSI Quadrant III): Observe students as they use the equipment and during labs and cleanup. Formal Assessment (LSI Quadrant III, IV): Visual inspection of the coupons and check sheet of proper procedures. Extension/Enrichment (LSI Quadrant IV): The students will work on personal projects or on work brought into the shop. 5 Copyright © Texas Education Agency, 2012. All rights reserved.
