“Fish Bowl”

Have students sit in a fish bowl (inner circle and outer circle, facing each other). Students in the inner circle make up a random company or a random product and tell the student across from them

The students directly across in the outer circle must come up with a quick idea for a webpage to advertise this company or product

Then have the outer circle rotate one spot to their left and repeat the process; continue until the outer circle goes completely around the circle or until the teacher calls time

“This is Me”

Materials needed:

- Computer with Internet connection

- A word processing program or slide presentation program that can save as a webpage

- Paper

- Pencil

- Large sheets of paper

- Markers

- Rubric

Approximate time:

45 minutes

Directions:

1. Show students some sample webpages, both personal and professional. a. Discuss things that they notice. What are some things they like or possibly dislike? b. What about things such as color, font, background color, images, etc.?

2. Explain to students that Network and Computer Systems Administrators and Web

Developers create websites to share information. They also create websites for customers who want to provide information, advertise, or sell products or services.

3. Let students know that they will be creating a webpage to share information about themselves to prospective clients. Brainstorm on a large sheet of paper the pieces of information that should be included on their webpage. On another sheet, brainstorm things that should be left OFF their

“This is Me” webpage.

4. Discuss visual appeal and why that is important. Create a list of the top five things that students should remember to do or to include when they create their webpage.

5. Have students briefly sketch out what information they will include on their webpage, and show how they will arrange the information on their website page.

6. Have students open the selected program, (word processing or slide presentation), and begin creating their “This is Me” webpage.

7. Allow time at the end of class for students to present their webpages.

Use “This is Me” Rubric to assign a project grade, if desired.

The web page has an exceptionally attractive and usable layout. It is easy to locate all important elements. White space, graphic elements and/or alignment are used effectively to organize material.

There are no errors in spelling, punctuation or grammar in the final draft of the web page.
