February 2014 Shareholder Exclusive Chairman’s message 2 E-shareholder info 4 Shareholder offers 8 BT Infinity offer 10 BT Sport TV Studio A message from your Chairman As you may have read, we’ve invested in exclusive live broadcast rights for UEFA Champions League and Europa League matches from 2015/16. We think BT Sport will become a natural home for football fans who wish to see the very best sides competing against each other, as well as for other sports fans wishing to see the rich mix of non‑football content on offer, including rugby and women’s tennis. Our aim is to make premium sport widely available, appealing to those put off by the prices charged by other pay TV providers to date. As announced last October, we’ve paid shareholders an interim dividend of 3.4p on 3 February, an increase of 13%. Our aim remains one of driving profitable revenue growth and increasing profits and cash over the long-term. That will enable us to continue to invest in the business, reduce debt and support our pension fund, while at the same time paying progressive dividends. Investments of course include our rollout of fibre optic cable across the UK. This continues at pace, with the faster broadband it enables now available to more than 17 million of the UK’s premises. That number will climb to 19 million by the end of spring this year, beating our initial targets by at least 18 months. We’re currently working in partnership with local councils and devolved authorities, to get more fibre broadband into rural areas. Faster online connections potentially benefit just about everyone – businesses needing to sell, children needing to study and families wanting to communicate or be entertained. BT Sport is free to BT Consumer customers with BT Broadband and can be accessed online or through a TV set‑top box. The service is six months old and we’re pleased with its progress. Two million customers have signed up directly with us for BT Sport. Virgin Media’s decision to buy the service and make it available to their customers takes that number to around four million. Beyond the UK, we continue our focused investment in highgrowth regions of the globe. BT earns a significant part of its revenues supplying business services outside the UK and we aim to go on competing effectively in the worldwide market. People at BT are motivated by the desire to make a difference and this is demonstrated through the 20,000 volunteering days recorded so far this financial year. We’ve supported more than 500 charities around the world, including offering tailored specialist support to voluntary organisations through BT Troubleshooter. Our commitment to BBC Children in Need remains as strong as ever and our online giving service, MyDonate, was integral to powering the charity’s fundraising last November. BT provided more than 500 volunteers to answer calls during the telethon, all of which helped achieve a record-breaking sum of £31m. We also saw BT making a difference when Typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines in November. We provided support in the disaster zone to help restore communications and MyDonate helped the Disasters Emergency Committee collect much-needed donations. The Board of BT remain clear about the vision which drives the company. We strive to create a better business, one that is able to deliver a better future, support our communities and reward our shareholders. Save £126 vs standard price Fraud – protect your shares Did you know 5,000 people contact the Financial Conduct Authority about share fraud each year. Some of our shareholders have received unsolicited phone calls or correspondence about their investments. Would you know what to do if you received unsolicited phone calls or correspondence? We’d like you to experience BT Infinity,† our superfast fibre optic broadband. As a shareholder, you can get Unlimited BT Infinity with Unlimited UK* Anytime calls for £25 a month (plus line rental for £15.99 a month).1 This is a big saving of £126 on this package (over an 18-month contract).2 These are often from overseas based ‘brokers’ who target UK shareholders. The caller will typically be calling out of the blue and offer to: sell your shares at a premium, buy shares for you at a discount or offer you free company reports. Firms authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) are unlikely to contact you in this way. WITH BT SPORT 3 This great price includes all the features you expect from BT Broadband, including BT Sport. To get this exclusive deal, just follow the link below to see if we can connect your home. bt.com/broadband/shareholder Although they may not ask for money right away, and assure you that nothing is payable, this is likely to come later. These operations are commonly known as ‘boiler rooms’. The ‘brokers’ (callers) can be very persistent and extremely persuasive. They often have websites to support their activities, their advice and the companies they purport to represent. Remember: if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is! You may be asked to complete some form of documentation. We strongly suggest that you don’t do this as it often contains much of the information required for a share transfer. Do not get into a conversation with them, note the name of the person and firm contacting you and then end the call. So, how do you know what is genuine? If we ask you for information relating to your shares, we will always ask you to return it either directly to BT or to our Registrars, Equiniti. Both addresses are on your dividend documentation. If you have already received an unsolicited call about your shares and have completed and returned documentation, you should contact the Financial Conduct Authority via their website www.fca.org.uk/scams or call them on 0800 111 6768. £6.95 hub delivery charge. †Not all lines in Infinity-enabled areas can support the Infinity service.
