Lesson Plan 1.3 – Careers and Skills Course Title – Accounting II Lesson Title – Careers and Skills TAKS: R1 Specific Objective – Introduce or reinforce understanding of the careers available in accounting. Reinforce understanding of the skills required for an accounting career and how those skills are transferable to other career areas. Performance Objectives: Understand the careers available in accounting; Understand what skills are needed in accounting; Understand what accounting skills you can transfer to other professions. Preparation Sponge/Focus Activity: Show the slide show titled “Introduction under Accounting II” on the Century 21’s Teacher Resource CD. Teaching Strategies: Explain that the information discussed in this lesson is also helpful with the Group Project at the end of this unit. Lesson Content: Show the Takin’ Care of Business DVD obtained from American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Discuss or present the Accounting Careers available, (see p. xvii in Century 21’s Textbook). Discuss or present Transferable Skills needed, (see p. xx in Century 21’s Textbook). Also show the Takin’ Care of Business Video provided by the AICPA. Have your students read “Accounting Careers in Focus” from the Glencoe Textbook. Have them respond to the questions posed at the end of each one. See pp. 25, 106, 153, 217, 286, 343, 410, 463, 511, 583, 644, 706, and 744.
